I think it was more due to internal conditions.
Corona has already punched a 120 mil hole in the revenue. Add to that the loss of CL money, estimated around 25 mil just for qualifying. The squad clearly needed refreshing and to top it all up, contracts of several key players are pending.
And the damning part about North American sports, like NHL, NBA, is that the team at the bottom actually gets rewarded to pick the top draft picks (the best young players), instead of getting punished for having a poor season or mismanagement.
FSG bought our club in a massive sale, they have made 5, 6 times over more the original price. They have made loads of money. The players they bought were average or good. Klopp made them better.
The only good things is they brought in, is Klopp, the stand.
Why is that damning?
The draft system and salary cap are aimed at long term egalitarianism, which is quite ironic in the most capitalist country on Earth.

Do you live in England? Because thatās how it works here. Weāre an easy target, not least because the club has been spineless for decades. Weāll come out of this looking worse than anyone else and it wont be forgotten.

You got to listen to Souness here, he is spot on.

There was a moment when Hicks and Gillett were here, still a while before they were finally booted out, I told my lad you will never see either of them set foot in Liverpool again. That proved to be the case.
I think today is the day the same can be said about these clowns.

Well no, they bought a club going bankrupt and invested time and money into it. The value of the club has gone up 5 or 6 times what they paid because they have done so successfully.

Thatās not true either is it Maria. VVD was not merely average or good, nor was Salah, Alison, Thiago or Fabinho. Klopp has done well with the players that he has had available, but the recruitment team did their part too in identifying and bringing them in.
Not really - they modernised our recruitment processes, good things are expected from the new training complex and the Annie Road development looks to be going ahead shortly. This on top of keeping the club in good financial shape and giving us possibly our strongest squad in at least the last 30+ years and seeing the club winning the PL & CL because of it.

You maybe right.
Here is Jamie Carragher assessing the situation.
Is this the same Souness who gave an interview to the Sun when he was Liverpool manager?

To be fair, he might know a bit about how long it takes scousers to forgive a fuck up.

He apologised profusely, he made a mistake and he has paid the price for it. He deserves a 2nd chance.

Fine, Iāll continue to dislike him for just ripping up the boot room and ruining the squad he inherited.

What do you want me to do, prostrate myself infront of FSG. What they did 2 days ago is unforgiveable. They jeopardised our clubās integrity, good name and threw our manager and players under the bus, where they had to answer questions about the ESL. Jurgen and the players found out about on social media.
FSG shamed us in front of the whole Football world. I will never forgive them.

Whataboutery.
What he says here is absolutely spot on. FSG wont be forgiven for this by large sections of the fanbase. And you could say heās speaking from experience.
Iām torn on it personally. FSG have done great things for this club with the odd fuck-up thrown in ( I didnāt have a problem with the furlough thing btw) but their conduct over the last 24-48 hours has been disgraceful.

I forgive Graham Souness because, I believe he sincerely loves LFC and has their best interests at heart. He made mistakes in his life. We have all made massive mistakes in all our lives and we learn from them. John Moores made a mistake selling to Hicks and Gillette.

Post more sensibly? disliking the events of this week doesnāt require you to exaggerate on all the other stuff. Blame the owners for what they have done wrong.

It was David Moores actually, John Moores was well dead at the time. Mr Moores pocketed 80 million from the deal and we havenāt seen the rat since.
