What I don’t get about this is his jaw droppingly incompetent the whole thing has been. The fag packet website, letting Perez run his mouth off at 2am and clearly pissed, the shambolic comms strategy, the sheer amateurish-ness of the whole affair.
FSG resemble a seemingly sensible girl getting drunk one night and ending up in Vegas getting married to a drug dealer.
FSG have done an incredible job of professionalising the club and building it into a powerhouse. Why the hell did they associate themselves with this shitshow? Even if they do want a ESL, they should be clever enough to see what a fucking shambles this was going to be.
I was thinking today it might be a cultural thing - that be of those separated by a common language things.
American sports are just different, and I wonder if John Henry is now really confused at why we’ve just spat guaranteed elite participation forever back in his face.
I get that completely, but I mean this was clearly rushed and ill-prepared. The clubs had not resolved the differences between them, they hadn’t got any kind of strategy in place to deal with the backlash, and they hadn’t worked out how to stop a bone fide lunatic getting pissed and running his mouth off.
Better the devil you know. Wanting us sold is to utterly ignore what’s happened at City and what happened to us immediately before FSG. Careful what you wish for…
I think you have to consider what the situation may have appeared like to them with all of the big clubs in a room together appearing to agree on the ESL as a way forward.
I think it has to do with them being so use to the North America style of running a franchise. I am in North America, and teams and leagues are run differently over here.
