Hope they lock him up and throw away the key
A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs after 65 people were injured by a car at a parade to celebrate Liverpool winning the Premier League.
Police were contacted just after 6pm yesterday after receiving reports that a car had hit a number of people on Water Street in the city centre.
A large emergency service presence remains at the scene on Tuesday afternoon as enquiries into the circumstances of what happened in yesterday’s horror incident remain ongoing.
Here’s everything we know so far:
** 50 people were treated at hospital for ongoing treatment.*
** Eleven people remain in hospital and all are in a stable condition and appear to be recovering well.*
** Merseyside Police believe a car which hit crowds of people followed an ambulance after a road block was temporarily lifted so paramedics could help a member of the public who suffered a suspected heart attack.*
** A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving whilst unfit through drugs.*
** The man, from West Derby, remains in custody where he is being interviewed.*
Yeah, now we know the background, there’s no sympathy from me. There are no mitigating circumstances that can excuse what he did.
It’s just a miracle that no one has died.
I will wait for the trial……no! If he was on drugs and did that? He is gone for 10+ years. For what? A stupid social habit or a short term high. I bet he has family who will suffer as the families of the victims have suffered. Ffs for what?
Will other casual, middle aged drug users take note? Probably not.
Sometimes I despair of society.
For the record I have never taken or tried drugs. Not a prude just ever fancied it. Drink was my thing and I do not do that anymore!
I know it is early, but very glad to hear that everyone is in stable condition. Obviously, there were people of all ages affected, but can’t imagine being the child who was seriously injured because some idiot decided to plow through a celebratory crowd. Fucking horrendous situation.
What’s with meth heads behind the wheel these days? Last month here in my region of Qld we had a rampaging meth head killing a young girl in a collision then brandished a gun at people trying to help him, now we have this.
Honestly, hug your loved ones because no-one is safe in this world.
And next the defence lawyer will infuriate me with all the excuses.
Pleased that all the victims are stable.
Now that more facts have emerged it certainly seems the driver was off his cruet one way or the other.Seems clear now the testng has emerged which.
He needs the book thrown at him.
I am generally no great fan of the police though they have a job to do,but in this case realeasing
the info on the driver as quick as they did, certainly defused the issue a lot.
"It can be overwhelming reading about the tragedy and the trauma of the terrible crash caused by one person yesterday at the end of Liverpool’s joyous celebrations with over a million people. But there are incredible stories after the tragedy of the heroic efforts of so many people to help in so many ways- getting people out of harm’s way, stopping the driver, nurturing the wounded, lifting the car to help those trapped, sheltering strangers, helping others in ways big and small and selfless and brave. So many police, doctors, and emergency services going above and beyond to help. Transportation officials helping people stranded. Messages of support pouring in from friends and rivals alike from around the world.
There is so much beauty in Liverpool, so much community, so much of looking out for each other. These stories reported in newspapers around the country, remind me of the goodness of people, and the special spirit of togetherness in Liverpool.
So, I thank all of these heroes, all of these generous helpers for inspiring us all and for rising to the moment. Sending love to all of those injured and hospitalized, and compassion to those who were impacted."
Before we go all Daily Mail, shall we just remember that this is his the criminal justice system works.
I know how the system works that was my point, and last time I checked TAN ain’t the Mail. Just making a simple point that we will hear pathetic excuses for such a treacherous act. I will move on.
Don’t blame the defence lawyer - that’s literally their job.
Drink is just as toxic to someone in a metal wagon that can go over 100 miles an hour…let’s not forget that.
Speaking of idiots on social media…

I simply blocked him when he posted his racist and malicious posts after the terrible incident after the parade and reported him. Many, many people did the same; he probably won’t be getting any more gigs anytime soon.
Realised I wasn’t that far from the situation after all, just googled a business I was stood next to in one of my photos and it’s the next street on.
Felt a bit drained by that.
I was even on the street but it was just too crowded to get further down so moved to the street next to it.
As you can see from one of my photos
