The people carrier assault on fans during the PL Champions Parade 2025

Right. Anything else.

They could just release a statement saying this other lad is not the man who we still have in custody. That he has no part in our investigation at all and also warn the public against this type of posting.

And what do they do if he is?

Well that will be released when he is formally charged. I was thinking more in terms of what he had been doing, where he was going, why he came to be in that place at that time. There is also the possibility that he has prior convictions which could throw a trial.

Is it him?

It’s entirely possibly on further investigation that they may not be entirely sure it’s not terrorism.

All speculation mind.

I mean, they will be all over any computers and devices that he has. Caught red handed doesn’t make for an entire case.

Maybe, maybe not. But why risk it? Just for the sake of a baying mob? Because the desires of people who need to know to satisfy their ridiculous voyeurism trumps the need for justice?

Yeah exactly they will have been looking into his activities.

I wouldn’t even entertain the idea if you were trying to placate, as you say voyeurism. But the innocent also need to be protected from baying mobs who may turn up at their house in search of retribution, and saying nothing may lead to those who are innocent paying a huge price.
Somewhere a middle ground could be found where the innocent are protected from potential repercussions of this type of allegation and the real accused getting their fair shot at justice.

I guess “the middle” here would be more stringent regulation of social media?

But I guess the response from the government would be:

Part of the problem I guess is that those baying mobs are precisely the voyeurs we’re talking about.

Some Chinese Whispers; if that is even a term anymore: or the equivalent doing the rounds in Liverpool at the moment…
a) The driver is a well liked guy by those that know him… neighbours included…
b) Good Father to his 3 children… blahdy blah.
c) He takes part in endurance athletic events, which makes it weirdly strange that drugs were even in his system…
d) The people carrier is his wife’s car, claims that he wasn’t used to driving it etc…

Of course, whether true or not, to me, there can be no valid excuse given for what he did. It is only ‘spawny’ luck he is not facing worse charges and a lifetime in jail

Gossip, idle speculation, rumour-mongering, take your pick…

All of which are completely irrelevant, in any case.

I saw something similar in another news outlet (Independent, I think) but they quoted The S*n, so there is a distinct possibility that it is all made up.

Best just to let the police get on with it. I expect that they have a huge amount of evidence to sift through.

These are general murmurings from within the City itself…
There is no way I would post something from some obscure source… which would be little more than guesswork…
Time will tell eh

I was just reading a witness account of the police procedure (rather than the incident) and it struck me as to just how long this will take to process.

I believe that they can hold the suspect until this evening unless they are going to investigate it as a terror offence.

Presumably, they can bring one charge (e.g. Dangerous driving) and bring others later, but would they be able to keep them in custody? I’m not entirely sure of what English law allows.

Comedian blacklisted after Liverpool parade joke brags of money made from sick gag

Comedian Andrew Lawrence had a gig cancelled after he made a poorly timed joke about the Liverpool parade incident, which saw more than 65 people injured

Jack Wetherill Showbiz & TV Editor

Comedian Andrew Lawrence has doubled down on his Liverpool parade incident joke. The controversial personality has since been blacklisted by a major comedy circuit too over it.

His comments have caused uproar due to the sensitivity of the horror incident. On Monday (May 26), a 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and other driving offences after ramming his car into a crowd of fans celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League title win. At least 65 people were injured as a result.

Andrew had tweeted on Tuesday: "To be fair, if I was in Liverpool, I’d drive through crowds of people to get the f* out of there as well."**

His words did not go down well, with people online calling him a “disgrace”. Caddies Southend, an Essex venue at which he was due to perform, axed his gig too, saying: “We do not condone or support the comment that has been made online, and we send everyone impacted by the tragic events in Liverpool our support and prayers.”

Andrew was then blacklisted from a number of other venues, including Hot Water Comedy Club in Liverpool and Comedy Story in London, as well as its tours.

Some, however, have defended him. Comedian Francis Foster said: “It was a joke. You can dislike it, find it reprehensible, disgusting, unfunny and morally abhorrent. But that’s all it was: a joke. Comedy is screwed when we do this to our colleagues.”

It appears Andrew doesn’t care about the backlash. In fact, he reckons it will actually boost his career and bank account.

He said: "Due to them leaving thousands of comments and viewing my posts millions of times, my creator income from X this month is going to be enormous. I’m talking about proper money, Liverpool, not what you’re getting on Universal Credit.

“Nonetheless, I understand you’re annoyed at me and you’d want an apology so here it is: I’m sorry. I’m sorry you emotionally inconstant crybabies don’t understand what a joke is.”

He also shared a two-minute video on Instagram doubling down on the gag, taking it even further.

Andrew branded the incident a “farce”, saying: “A grand total of two people were seriously injured, both of whom are going to make a full recovery, and yet a lot of Scousers are acting like they’ve just been through the Holocaust.”

He went on: “If you go to Liverpool and make horrible jokes about Manchester, they’ll lap it up like flies on hot dog s*** because they’re filthy hypocrites. They’ll be watching this video absolutely seething, which makes it all the more enjoyable.”

Just watched that video. He is clearly one snide, bigoted prick. My initial thoughts were he’ll be very, very lucky if he doesn’t come to regret it some time in the future.

Karma will have him a quadriplegic from a car collision?
