I’m still using my first camera, an EOS 50D. Its maximum ISO is really just 1600 (since 3200 is just pure noise). When its time comes, I want to move to full-frame, so I was looking at the EOS R6. Which has a maximum ISO of 1024800. 6 stops of difference. I also shoot a lot of manual lenses, which means the in-body image stabilisation will also help a lot, and I think it’s 8 stops?
14 stops of handholding capability, that’s incredible.
R6 is a solid choice even though Canon have fallen behind a bit in the megapixel war. Not that it matters hugely unless you really crop images. You’ll see a huge step up in quality.
The jump to mirrorless feels a fruitful choice so far. Even the kit (24-200mm) lens i got with it is still rendering things better than my previous set up.
I’ll have to start saving for a 100-400mm and then a step up to the 24-120mm to complete the set. That wont be cheap
One downer is this has rendered my current image editing set up useless. I’ll need to get a new laptop and editing software. Fuck Adobe and their subscription model too.
Try darktable! It’s got a really steep learning curve, but it’s also really powerful, and in my experience at least, rather fast. But that’s for RAW processing, and if you’re looking for more of a Photoshop replacement, there’s GIMP.
Interesting. I’ve always found it a bit limited and found i needed photshop as well. In the end I was doing all the Lightroom type adjustments in Camera Raw and then the higher end edits in Photoshop.
That said I know many pro’s use Lightroom. I just found my way worked for me. No problem starting again though.
Yes, praying mantises do have wings. In fact, they possess two pairs of wings: a larger pair of forewings (tegmina) and a smaller pair of hindwings. While not all species are capable of flight, those with fully developed wings can use them for various purposes, including dispersal, hunting, and escaping predators.
The world of insects is fascinating. So diverse, so complex and incredibly beautiful. We tend to see them like vermin, but put yourself at their scale, and they become terrifyingly beautiful.
