Tributes have poured in from across the chess world and the International Chess Federation called his death “a devastating loss”.

“such a wholesome presence in the chess community, and the world is a worse place without him. I don’t know if we’ll ever see another person like Daniel: so instructive, so entertaining, and so patient.”

“Physicality and commitment”

Sounds like him alright.

Tcheky karyo has passed away.

First saw him as a corrupt cop in kiss of the dragon.

Probably only known to Irish members, but Sr Stan was an advocate for homeless people before it became populist to do so. She had a social concience that many could learn from. Inspirational lady

She was a superb actress, always believable in whatever role she played, and inspired a lot of love and sympathy from many who watched her. She seemed to be on TV especially all the time as I was growing up, with and without her husband. Such a sweetheart, I remember.

Quentin Willson, former Top Gear presenter and motoring journalist has died:

I vaguely knew Quentin, as I wrote a few articles for the Top Gear website when it started up in the late 1990s. Always seemed like a friendly chap. Also a good consumer champion. He had been campaigning on environmental aspects of motoring in recent years. He’ll be sadly missed.

I remember we had to read and reference the Molecular Biology of the gene as part of our Uni studies course. It was so big and heavy. We never liked it, as we found it overwhelming, there was too much jargon and for new students who didn’t have an extensive knowledge of inorganic chemistry making it a challenging read.

It is a shame, the third researcher, Rosalind Franklin was never acknowledged in the discovery of DNA as she made a huge contribution to the DNA structure, the famous photo 51 which was crucial to the evidence to Watson and Crick to discover the DNA double helix.

RIP anyway. His contribution to Medical Sciences is immense.
