I’d say if the family want his name added then it should be and if is then it’s 97. Nothing more complicated than that. Though I understand for people more closely involved then it’s a much more emotive issue.
Here is the official statement from the family of Andrew Devine
It is with great sadness and a sense of immense loss that we can confirm that Andrew Devine passed away yesterday at the premature age of 55.
Our collective devastation is overwhelming but so too is the realisation that we were blessed to have had Andrew with us for 32 years since the Hillsborough tragedy.
We welcome the conclusion of the coroner, Mr Andre Rebello, made today at Liverpool Coroner’s Court, that Andrew was unlawfully killed, making him the 97th fatality of the tragic events that occurred on April 15, 1989.
In the intervening years, Andrew has been a much loved son, brother and uncle. He has been supported by his family and a team of dedicated carers, all of whom devoted themselves to him.
As ever, our thoughts are with all of those affected by Hillsborough.
We would ask that our privacy is respected at this sad time.
Clearly, the family consider him to be the 97th victim. That is good enough for me.
I never realised before that somebody could still be classed as a victim of something that happened many years ago. Suppose they class it as complications of the original injuries.
The sad thing is then that it does become 97 but who knows where that number will official stop.
I might be wrong, but from what I read on the BBC website, I understood her point to be that the number of people affected by the events at Hillsborough go far beyond the names on the memorial. I don’t know if that was taken from what you saw on the news or said independently.
In recognition of Andrew Devine’s passing, a minute’s silence will take place ahead of kick-off at our Premier League fixture against Burnley at Anfield to allow supporters, players and staff to come together to pay their respects.
The immortal Mrs. Hudson Although that modern Sherlock Holmes was never really my favorite. She also starred in some episodes of Miss Marple and Midsomer Murders too.
