That goal against Palace actually sent my football development backwards for a period because I loved it so much I became obsessed with flick headers, doing them in all sorts of situations where they were completely inappropriate and not helpful at all
See Adam Lallana and his Cruyff turns
He clearly bamboozled his fellow kids back in the day, showing off his shiny skill. And then he kept doing it throughout his career, whether the situation needed it or not!
I was at the Everton game when he scored that header - Shanks in his post match report said - āthe lad was about an inch above the turf with that diving headerā :0)
Prone to a touch of exaggeration was Shanks, but at the time without a zillion replays to watch⦠it certainly felt as though it was a bullet header, delivered in a somewhat Superman style of flying through the air to connect fully with itā¦
Special player with silky skills - RIP Peter Cormac
Regardless of what we thought of his politics, and setting aside the allegations about his behaviour, he was a significant and skilled politician. My condolences to his family and friends.
Probably disagreed with most of what he said and thought but he was a titan of politics in that country.
Large caveats there. Imagine they could be the start of an obit about some fairly odious political figures.
Paul DiāAnno
Saw him in 1979 with Iron Maiden.
RIP
Geoff Capes, the shotputter, has died aged 75:
He always seemed to be the goto reference for a big strong guy: āHe was built like Geoff Capes.ā
He came to my school once. The archetypal āgentle giantā.
My condolences to his family and friends.
Crikey, was he only 75? I thought he would have been much older.
Yeah @cynicaloldgit post above would suggest so.
RIP Geoff Capes, will always him as Shotput sportsman.
I seem to remember he was a policeman too? Could be wrong. Anyhow, I remember when he was in his pomp in the shot putt and then went on to win the worldās strongest man. I remember a VW Polo advert he did, where he rolled the vehicle over and put it back on its wheels.
A gentleman, and a gentle giant, fond memories of him from when I was a kid. RIP.
Maybe he was a teacher there - sort of imagining some Dumbledoreās age wise⦠or maybe he simply owned it.
Fixed it for you.
Teri Garr has passed away.
My most sincere condolences to her family and friends.
I havenāt thought of Garr for god knows how long but I was reading a piece over the weekend about Julie Louie Dryfuss who cited her as one of her comedy idols
