He’s in the middle of an awkward conflict between Argentina and Saudi over the next world cup award. The Saudis want it and this is presumed to be one of the main reasons they have hired him to be a Saudi brand ambassador. The issue is Argentina and Uruguay are also bidding (I think with Chile) and it’s a currently well received bid given it would be the Centenary of the first event also held in Uruguay. Leo is obviously expected to be a figurehead for that bid, which conflicts him in his role with the Saudis.
This contract then looks far less about getting him to play in the Saudi league and more deconflicting him and buying his loyalty for their bid.
