The Referees or The Twelfth Man

Thats Nevilles assessment.
Which, I’m sure you agree means fuck all…

From my vague recollection I don’t think that’s the case? I remember he was removed from refereeing for a while not just because of the van Dijk incident, but also because he had made controversial decisions in other games not involving us.

A vague recllection?
In order to prove fairness exists we are compelled to produce hard evidence, data driven research. We need towatch all Cootes matches and decide who he hates and those he loves.

Your vague recollections will be sniffed at by the equity in football police.

Would be good if Neville vacated his Sky Sports seat for him then… As big a Cnut that Coote is… he is still only an amateur compared to Rat Boy Neville

I tried searching after posting that, but thanks to how long ago it was, and all the controversy, page after page of Google results don’t show anything. Not worth wasting more of my time on.

EDIT: The point is, after that van Dijk incident, I remember reading that and realising how horrendously bad a referee he was, which is why I always thought of him as just pure incompetent rather than corrupt/biased in any way. He is an absolutely terrible referee, video or not, bias or not.

Prior to the Van Dijk incident he received sanctions for failing to recommend a red card for Lo Celso for an awful challenge on Azpilicueta that went unpunished by the ref. We were assured he “would learn from that mistake”.

“I”, “I”, “I” should be the title of Gary’s next autobiography.

Very good at giving his unwanted opinions, not so much when it comes to aligning the laws of the game within match officials into his views.

Did you just have this prepped and ready to go for the moment someone like me mentioned it?

There are days I dont remember my partner’s date of birth, yet I have loads of utterly pointless trivia burned into my brain refusing to make way for useful shit. It’s a curse.

It is probably that I was a bit of a Lo Celso fan when he went to PSG and so I was interested in what he’d do at Spurs and this was about the only thing of note he did in his time there.

Provide support for the notion that Coote is hopelessly incompetent?

Take your manc glasses off Neville

The point you are overlooking is Coote has been gradually re-introduced to Liverpool matches over a number of years.

Why is that?

Between July 2020 and March 2024 he didn’t ref a single PL game involving Liverpool. They drip fed him a few low-profile cup games the first of which was well over a year on from the Burnley game referenced in the video. In between was the derby where he was VAR for the VVD injury and Henderson’s disallowed goal. A couple of weeks later he allowed himself to be caught on video calling Klopp a German cunt.

I would suggest the PGMOL and PL at this point knew he had major issues with Klopp and LFC and may even have known about the video. It all adds up.

So do you really think he’s going to try and screw us straight after being welcomed back into the fold? He’s going to be on his best behaviour knowing PGMOL are going to be watching like hawks. I’ll bet he’d have fucking loved to have given a soft as shite penalty to Villa but it was never going to happen.

He was pretty close to being able to ref our matches again after being ‘rehabilitated’ over several years but the video has put an end to that and I for one couldn’t be happier.

How many games did he get for other teams though?

The only thing to shoot down suits is bostonlegal

For every PL game there are 3 positions that need a ref appointed to fill - ref, VAR, and 4th official. At the beginning of the 2020-21 season Coote was appointed to 2 of our games in a row. One was the thrashing by Villa (4th official) after which this video is alleged to have been taken, and the second was the Van Dijk game against Everton. He was publicly censured for missing the Van Dijk red in his role on VAR after that game, but interestingly we didnt see him again in any capacity until the very end of that season, some 30 games later.

If those appointments were being made by chance there is only about a 1% chance we avoid him for that long a stretch. Now, if he was being kept away from our games, does it seem reasonable it would be done, and for that long, over the Virgil incident that he was already publicly sanctioned for missing? Or is it more likely there were other reasons?

Talk about kicking a man when he is down…how he caused a manager to be sacked.

He wasn’t the ref or the VAR in this game so if that’s your hard evidence then forgive me for having my doubts as to the validity of your argument.
