Hope none of his best mates are reffing the Carabao Cup final.

Bollox, they can give an indirect freekick for not releasing it under the current laws, refs just ignore it.

What they need to stop is the routine catch and fall to the floor, to try and circumvent the supposed start of the 6 seconds, as it doesn’t start until the keeper is deemed to be in control of the ball i.e on his feet.

Hate it when someone tries to change the laws when there is no good reason or it is already covered

Ridiculous change to the laws. Won’t be enforced will it? 8 seconds seems very arbitrary in any case…why not 7 or 9?

It will be penalised first few weeks of the season and then disappear off the radar.

Give a yellow card on the first one they would soon stop.

First game of the season John Brooks is going to come out like a fucking man possessed, give a corner against Alisson for holding the ball for six seconds, and that will be the last we hear about that.

Is the idea that refs will be more willing to enforce it because the penalty is less extreme?

Giving a yellow card instead of waving your hands for the 4th time would stop a fair bit.

What we’ll get is goalkeepers feigning injuries, they’ll catch the ball then throw it out of play and collapse to the floor knowing the opposition will give it back once their ‘treatment’ is over.
The authorities never learn that players and coaches will always find a way to abuse the rules to their advantage.

More corners? Arsenal’s title next season then, nailed on :joy:

On reflection awarding a corner is fucking ridiculous. It’s a distortion of the game, like saying a penalty will be given if a red card offence is committed on the half-way line.
It’s a simple enough problem to solve. Release the ball within 8 seconds or it’s a yellow card, do it again and you’re off.

Arsenal haven’t scored a goal from a corner now in 29 attempts thats why title charge has stalled.

I can only ever remember one free kick awarded for goalie holding on to ball too long in recent times. That was Mignolet against Bordeaux something silly like 20 seconds.

Well bollocks! Pesky facts getting in the way of my narrative :joy:

Saw somewhere that John Brooks has been given the League Cup final. That’s wonderful…Joelinton kick fest upcoming, with Brooks waving play on all day.

It’s a final. He has a responsibility to the spectacle of it to let the game flow. You cannot give a yellow card for that, especially not so early

Joelinton’s just not that kind of player.
