I remember seeing the referee dancing on Strictly… :0)

He’s fairly new. I was going to say that we have never had him before but it turns out that his first match was our U18 game against Everton!

Hope he has a good one, anyway.

That’s Arsenals newest tactic revealed.

Crowd the keeper as soon as he gathers the ball to prevent him from releasing it.

The game could do with lots more offering correct and honest opinions like this… In other words, the ones not ‘led by the nose’ by their SKY paymasters. See the comments of Keith Hackett

Chris Kavanagh’s Performance During Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea Needs ‘Reviewing’ - Hackett

Keith Hackett has called for a review into the performance of referee Chris Kavanagh following Sunday’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Chelsea. The Gunners secured a 1-0 victory thanks to Mikel Merino’s first-half header, reducing the gap between themselves and league-leaders Liverpool to 12 points.

However, former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Hackett has been left dismayed by Kavanagh’s decision-making at the Emirates Stadium - particularly his failure to send off Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana. He told Football Insider: “Reviewing those challenges by Fofana yesterday, you have to say ‘how did he stay on the field of play?’.”

Hackett believes that one of Fofana’s challenges was worthy of a straight red card, while two separate fouls were worth yellows. On Kavanagh’s performance, Hackett added: “Those earlier two challenges that went unpunished by him is a worry, because this is not the standard of officiating that you expect at the highest level.

“I hope that somebody in power reviews his performance, and that he as a referee, receives some operational advice.”

:face_exhaling: - will try and find some more info on this… but

Referees’ boss Howard Webb has told EFL clubs that Premier League match officials are earning an average of £240,000-a-year.

In a revealing presentation, the PGMOL chief disclosed that top-flight refs are costing the business close to a quarter of a million pounds - which is double what those in the Championship are paid.

Within the presentation Rotherham-born Webb told clubs that Select Group Referees, of whom there are 21, are expected to earn an average salary of £240,000 this season. However, officials have since attempted to clarify, pointing out that the figure of £240,000 is actually the total cost to PGMOL including National Insurance, match fees and performance bonuses and have claimed that a salary of £180,000 is more commonplace.

In the Championship, Webb said that the 18 Select Group Two Referees will get around £120,000, with assistant referees on £110,000.

He added that the 29 members of the ‘development group’, which officiate in Leagues One and Two, are paid around £30,000.

A lack of ‘churn’ was also highlighted as an area for concern amid a perception of ‘jobs for life’, with a rate of just 3 per cent between 2018 and 2024 compared with an ideal rate of 10 per cent per year, which would allow younger refs to move up the ladder.

Good that you have put this word in bold.

Who is reffing the Everton game? It had better not be oliver and atwell in var.

We had him for Spurs and Southampton away and the defeat to Plymouth in the cup. He seemed OK. The VAR is another matter!

Tierney had better behave himself but other than that, it seems the appointments should be ok. If they are anonymous and people forget even that they were on the pitch then imo they are excellent refs.

Interesting they’ve given him “an event match”. Though a ref that doesn’t treat it as such is an improvement on the last one.

I just looked him up again to confirm my memory of things, and what I remember of him is that I don’t remember his refereeing, which as @FGred said is only a good thing.

I remember there was a lot of praise for him, and suggestions that he should be given bigger games. Well, here’s a big one for him.

Gerrman referee Patrick Ittrich has suggested making several changes to football’s rules..

  1. For a tactical foul in midfield, a free-kick should be awarded 17 metres from goal. How often will we see such fouls then?

  2. If the player rolls on the floor three times and needs a doctor, get him one and make him wait on the sideline for 3 minutes. How quickly do you think the player would stand up?

  3. If a player insults the referee, send them off for 10 minutes to calm down. Go cycling to warm up before coming back on. We can learn from handball in that respect.

  4. How is a referee surrounded by 10 men after a decision? In my opinion, boom, boom, boom - three red cards. Play seven against ten now. That’d be fine by me.

I am actually quite for 2 and 4 could easily be implemented I’d rather we not go around making things more complicated on number 1.

How long before we’d have a VAR check on the number of rolls?

Meaning more those who pretend their injured and then come straight back on.

He’s missed the first rule I’ll implement when I take over the world…

If you go down holding your face/head in order to stop the game… and a VAR review shows zero contact with your head/face… straight red.
