Going to sleep on it. Feel like a Gatland rant is coming.

I have a group chat with 4 or 5 lads from back home I went to school with that tends to be only active around the holidays or the 6N. Several of them are trying to convince each other it was actually a close game if you ignore the score board.

Funny as it is the first half numbers were close, bar the points scored per visit to the 22.

Second half we were miles off.

I come back to our tactics, we are no where and that’s on Gatland. No shape. The players, while not anywhere near the standard of the French lads this evening they are better thsn that.

It feels like we’ve taken the Dragons side, sucked all the shit out and put it on the field this evening.

It was close for the first 15mins

Rugby is a game where that can sort of be the case, but usually the 2nd half sees the gap widen.

How has Gatland survived for so long? Surely he has to go if they get the wooden spoon again?

No idea how he’s hanging on in there, he must have a series of compromising photos of someone in the WRU.

13th successive Test loss. An ongoing record. Surely he can’t survive much longer

By the skin of his teeth after last year, the WRU said as much. I suspect cost is an issue to some degree. He’s not cheap to keep or sack…

I was on board with his appointment as I saw him as a pragmatic coach, getting more out of a squad than the sum of the parts. That’s not working and its been compounded by everyone else being as fit, bigger, sttonger and let’s be honest just better.

We are really in a mess. I might calling for the return of Rupert Moon if this carries on.

Again, tactically we are really poor. France were defending with a flat line of 14 players at times, only leaving Ramos back. That means theres space. We didn’t use it.

Ended dry January with 5x Guinness and a win over England :ok_hand:

Yeah, enough Welsh misery, let’s celebrate the Irish :grinning:

Really good performance from them. England did ok initially but they still arent right as a side for me.

Smith seems to drop off as the game proceeds and it leads to them losing shape. Englands back 3 are weak too imo.

Ireland are tough. So good and well balanced. Really difficult to defend against and horrible in defense.

Shout out to Scotland too. Lethal back line they have.

You could have stuck on 4, but Ireland needed you to power it over the finish line

Interesting debate. Obviously impossible to compare player’s influence from different positions but just for fun.

Naturally I’m going to say BOD for his tries, influence and totally changing the story of Irish rugby. Though have to say that Dupont is just a joy to watch.

That is an uncanny likeness to his namesake Brian O’Driscoll

I’d go with Sexton actually.

Has there been a player that defines the way a team play and consistently delivers minimum 8/10 performances every single game without fail?

Plenty of other individuals of course, some delivering amazing stuff but for players that define a team there’s very few.

Only other one that springs to mind is Alun Wyn Jones.
