Yeah, big opportunity, but then again…
And by the way, what happens if we are 4th, but Chelsea (outside the top 4) wins the CL and United wins the EL?
Yeah, big opportunity, but then again…
And by the way, what happens if we are 4th, but Chelsea (outside the top 4) wins the CL and United wins the EL?
Oh no, not this again!
United are guaranteed to finish top four so would qualify via their league position, not through winning the EL. The extra spot then goes to another UEFA association (think the next highest co-efficient where team not qualified…?).
It doesn’t affect the PL though.
Chelsea would, however, qualify for the CL through their CL win but that doesn’t knock anyone out who finished 4th as we’re allowed up to 5 from the PL.
Nothing. Only mattered if Arse made the EL final as there can be 5 but not 6 teams from one league. And if 6, then 4th place misses out.
It would be beautiful if Chelsea were the losers in the race for top 4 and had something extra to play for in the CL final…
Chelsea plays CL football.
United plays CL football.
Liverpool plays CL football.
3rd place team in France goes directly to the CL group stage.
Beat WBA, that’s all we need to do at this moment, nothing changes for us elsewhere in regards chasing 3/4th
If we beat WBA then we will know by the time we next play what will be required, whether we will need to out score Leicester or just make sure we win.
Villa with the fans at home will be interesting for a Chelsea team with one eye on the following weekend.
Spurs won’t be a push over with Mason in charge to be fair plus Harry Kane will be pushing for the golden boot still.
But it is all irrelevant if we don’t win on Sunday
I was up early and ran some simulations. There are 18 scenarios that can play out for Chelsea’s and Leicester’s remaining games:
If we win all 3 games there is only one scenario that will see us miss out. That is already a long shot as it will require Leicester to lose to Chelsea and then beat Spurs by a big margin on the final day. It gets even less likely with every goal we score in our 3 wins.
If we drop 2 points (2 wins and a draw) we could still qualify from 9 of the scenarios but several of those would require it being on GD and it will be harder to jump Chelsea GD than Leicester’s. Interestingly, the result on Tuesday doesn’t affect the number of qualifying scenarios we’d still have. However, probably the most likely scenario for this to play out is for Leicester to win on Tuesday and Chelsea win by 1 against Villa and get overtaken by us on GD.
Even with a loss there are still 5 scenarios that would see us still qualify. Almost all of those require Chelsea to drop points in both their remaining games, the other one being Leicester lose both their remaining games and we pip them on GD. Even these while not the most likely are not out of the question.
I think the take away from this is just fucking win. Am I right?
Oh, and something that has largely gone unnoticed over the last two months is that we are the leagues form team. It doesn’t feel like it, but there we are.
Played six, won four, drawn two, goal difference of eight.
One game at a time, lets beat West Brom on sunday, then we move on to the Burnley game, beat
Burnley and we move on to the Palace game.
Yes all three games we should win, but lets just concentrate on one at a time. After the three games lets see where we end up.
Hopefully it will be 3rd or 4th.
COYR
I have got everything crossed, of course, but if we get in the CL next season it will be the closest thing to divine intervention I’ve ever witnessed
Been thinking about fans and how beneficial they may be at first, you would assume it would be a help but it may take some teams adjustments.
As for the WBA you could flip that and say nothing to play for under a manager who will be gone at the end of the season.
And if fans are going be for beneficial they will be for us, last time we saw them was the start of our shitty 3 months.
If we don’t perform we will get what we deserve which is fuck all if we do then we will get what we deserve which is the rewards.
Regardless of what the other teams do. That last game against Villa for Chelsea is going be interesting with a Villa Park with fans and a final 7 days away are some players going not be up for a 50/50 and so on.
I’ve always said all we can do is our own jobs, we sprinted away with the league because we relied on ourselves, the season before we relied on others and it got us nowhere, only thing we know is both teams above us cannot get 100% points from their two remaining games and that gives us a chance to finish above them, if we don’t perform we won’t. So narratives or whatever if we go out and give everything they won’t be able to overcome us.
Our mini season started last night and continues against WBA. We win that then we talk about the next game.
Beat West Brom and see where it’s at then.
Rinse, repeat.
That’s actually good. I would have been worried if those were easy games.
Yeah, that’s true. It’s no use fretting over what may come. Let’s just enjoy the ride.
Scenes if Hodgson ruins our plans in his final ever game (IF it is).
I think the key against all 3 is getting the early goal, if we do then they will crumble but the longer it goes on the Jecklepool of this season will rear its ugly head.
Our form is very good, finally against Utd our forwards started to take chances… If we take an early one v’s West Brom it will ease that pressure etc.
The beauty of the LC and Chelsea games remaining is that:
Isn’t that called “getting the excuses in early”?
If a supporter of one of our rivals had posted something similar, we’d all be taking the piss.
Anyone who thinks Sunday is going to be an easy win should take a look at our record (under Klopp) against West Brom and then take a look against our record (under Klopp) against Allardyce.
Then also remember that we are at the end of a horror season, played on Thursday and they had 4 days more to prepare. And we are still missing key players.
‘They have nothing left to play for’ doesn’t work for Allardyce teams.
