The Run In Thread

Draws against Wes Brom, Newcastle twice, Leeds and defeats against Southampton, Burnley, Brighton, Fulham is the key to such a fall. That’s 20 points dropped of which we should be expected to get at least 16+. That combined with draw against United and defeats against Everton, Chelsea, Leicester and City means we have been absolutely rubbish since December. both against top and bottom sides.

It’s not today’s defeat, but the above results why we shouldn’t be in top 4 contention. It’s funny that we can still finish top 4, because we should in no position to even be in the conversation. Predicament to how shite the others have been as well.

The worst thing is that we would have won pretty much every single one of the games you have mentioned with competent finishing and/or arbitration.

We’re back to square 2016. :joy:

Can someone please post a short explanation which places are for the EL and which for the Conference League? Also, depending on the outcomes of domestic cup finals?

Yes. Also read somewhere we have lost around 15 points by conceding in the last 15 minutes. We have been losing our monster mentality which on the contrary won us plenty of games towards the end last season.

Wouldn’t have mattered so much if we had been 3 or 4-0 up, as is usually the case.

1st-4th: Champions League group stage
5th and FA Cup winner: Europa League group stage
League Cup winner: Conference League playoff round

If Manchester City win the Champions League, the Turkish champion goes directly to the group stage.
If Chelsea win the Champions League and finish top 4, the Turkish champion goes directly to the Champions League group stage.
If Chelsea win the Champions League and finish 5th, then the 6th place club in England qualifies for the Europa League group stage.
If Arsenal win the Europa League, they qualify for the Champions League group stage. [I am assuming they finish no higher than 8th.]
If Manchester United win the Europa League, the 3rd placed team in France goes directly to the Champions League group stage.

If Chelsea or Leicester win the FA Cup and finish top 4, the team in 6th will qualify for the Europa League group stage.
If Chelsea or Leicester win the FA Cup and finish 5th, the team in 6th will qualify for the Europa League group stage.
If Manchester City win the League Cup, the team in 6th will qualify for the Conference League, unless that team has qualified for Europe via one of the paths above, in which case the team in 7th will qualify for the Conference League.
If Tottenham win the League Cup and finish top 4, the team in 6th will qualify for the Conference League, unless that team has qualified for Europe via one of the paths above, in which case the team in 7th will qualify for the Conference League.

Chelsea have a lot riding on their constellation of outcomes!

If Chelsea win the Champions League AND the FA Cup AND finish 5th, the clubs in 6th and 7th will qualify for the Europa League. If Manchester City also win the League Cup, the team in 8th will qualify for the Conference League.

Edit to say: Manchester City have already guaranteed their qualification for the CL group stage and I am assuming that United will not drop out of the top 4.

Europa is probably all we have to fight for, not so down on that but we will probably fuck that up.

Even if WHU and Chelsea were draw now probably won’t win all our remaining 5 and I feel would we need to, not too bothered with Leeds they are a decent side and issues lay elsewhere but today the finishing in that half was a joke. Especially the Salah to Mane on a plate one.

If the goalie is having a worldie then fair enough but I think he made one really good save, the rest was very easy.

I think now there’s a very real possibility of us ending up in the Conference League (jeez, they couldn’t come up with a better name ). I hope the permutations and combinations work in a way that we don’t. We deserve that much.

Who knows when will we hear this again… and maybe when we do, it’s not the same competition anymore.

:pensive:

So fucking disappointing if we miss out on the champions league.

Fucking joke of a season it’s been.

People will blame the injuries but the fact of the matter is we are where we are due to the fact that our forwards (excluding mo) have been fucking pub league this year

It has been a strange season, with no fans, it was hard watching the football, hearing the sporadic voices in an empty stadium. The fake crowd noise wasn’t that effective either.

I’d rather listen to matches with no commentary, I don’t mind the teams shouting or the effing and jeffing…rather than fake crowds…

The fake crowd noise is just…fake, Never really synchronized with the mood or the moment.

100%. I always hated the commentary and the only reason I kept sounds on during pre-COVID games was the crowd noises. Now, I just listen to some songs while watching.

I fucking miss the kaleidoscope of banners and people though :frowning:

We’ve taken 5 points out of a possible 27 from games against Newcastle, West Brom, Southampton, Fulham, Burnley and Brighton this season.

Those are the teams placed 13th to 19th.

If we had won all of those we’d be 1 point behind City.

I want this season to be erased from my memory.

We just need to stop discussion, analyzing, evaluating, criticizing, this season. It’s an abomination. Never before, we needed a fresh start so badly after this wretched 2020/21.

I am hoping that we give Man Utd false hope, that they think they are going to win and then we thump them 3-0 at Old Trafford next week.

We all just got to get through it.
