Ukraine is counterattacking and advancing now, but Debaltseve is so far behind safe Russian lines that this action is inexplicable to me at current. Infamously, Debaltseve was in a pocket after the ceasefire of 2015, and was fought over and conquered by Russia long after the ceasefire was supposed to be in effect. But still, it is in the deep Russian rear these days.

Itâs too deep in the rear and Russia is âgenerallyâ not retreating (getting pushed back due to culmination of own offensive or logistical issues, forces at times minor retreats, but Debaltseve is in the deep rear and itâs logistics important for the Russian army grouping in the area.
I also came across information now that seems to indicate that it was a wording error and that it was Ukrainian and not Russian drones striking that railroad hub. And that makes a lot more sense.
