The Spursy Thread

They’re saying they’re after Ten Hag. AVB had been doing a good job in Marseille. Harry?

Extended his contract with Ajax.

Gone into motorsport, I’m serious.

Saw Parker linked before, I didn’t note the source so it was probably ladbible or someone.

Can’t see them doing that. Howe would probably be the choice if they went that route.

I’m having difficulty thinking of genuine candidates for the Spurs job. I wonder if Bielsa is on it ?

Or Nuno Espírito Santo.

I was wondering about Nuno, but Wolves haven’t had a good season this year and I’m not sure his football style fits with how Spurs see themselves playing- particularly if they had been after the Ajax manager. They could justify Mourinho on his reputation as a winner.

Rafa has said he wants his next job to be in the Premier League.
How would we feel about him managing spurs.

He might win them a trophy…

Levy will fire him before the final.

I think he would be a good fit for Spurs, particularly if they have some money to invest. I’m sure he would love to succeed Mourinho and erase memories of his time at Inter.

However, given the Ajax manager was the apparent first choice I dont see it happening. They appear to be looking for Poch 2. A young talented manager who can grow into the club and work on a shoe string.

I would prefer Rafa taking over a club which can go upwards and he can make his mark by showing improvement. His choices of clubs surprises me, especially Chelsea and Madrid. I presume he’ll be respected more at Spurs than was at Chelsea.

Spurs are at a crossroads. They need to rebuild with a long-term vision. If they gamble with another Mou-like project, they will become like Everton. I have a feeling that they might gamble on Maurizio Sarri.

I don’t think his club choices are really that surprising. He was burnt out at Liverpool, and at the time Inter looked a great opportunity - but unfortunately Mourinho had walked out just before the whole thing collapsed, so Rafa got scapegoated.

I think he is or was first and foremost a fan of Madrid, wasn’t he on their books as a young player before injury ended his career?

Chelsea was simply an opportunity for him to work again - I think he may have turned down other jobs previously and this obviously carried some profile. He had a reputation because of the fall out with H&G and later the Inter job, so the Chelsea job was probably his opportunity to repair that damage.

HIs choices now are fewer and far between. He was willing to take the Newcastle job and did relatively well, only leaving because the board wouldn’t sanction spending on the players he felt were needed (then proceeded to spend more for Bruce?).

It seems odd that someone like Rafa has so little demand amongst clubs in Europe.

Well Inter after what Mourinho achieved was always going to be case where he cannot surpass it. So it was bound to be consider a relative failure. Plus Mourinho teams were known to completely drain out.

What I meant was he takes up the most difficult challenges and whatever he achieves would not get the credit it deserves.

I’m not sure it was known at that point that Mourinho teams were drained out - that’s something that came from what followed at Inter and Madrid, along with the stories of Mourinho keeping in touch with players of those clubs and talking down their management. The Chelsea side remained strongly competitive and just suffered from poor management choices.

He might have risked being seen as a relative failure, then again may be not had he actually been supported properly by the board. Unlike Mourinho, he wouldn’t have been in a rush to leave so would have had longer to compound his achievements.

Comparing Totts to Everton flatters Totts. Hard to see Everton sacking a proven manager who has earned his way into a Cup Final (and him a specialist in cup finals) days before to save 30M GBP.

Joke of a club, Tottenham, at this point.

Haha. Need fans first.

To be fair, Spurs do have a large fanbase. Much bigger than Everton’s.
