The Steven Gerrard Thread

It was powerful when he did when he first arrived at Villa as it was a way to leverage the gravitas he carried. The problem is if it doesnt produce results you have to show you have something more otherwise the players will feel hung out to dry, and that is seemingly what happened.

I think Stevie doesn’t really have the necessary gravitas beyond being a great player. He doesn’t have the charisma of a Klopp nor the cuntish bully of a Ferguson or Mourinho. He has an intensity and desire to win but he has to figure out how to give that to his players while also articulating how he wants his team to play. I’ve been disappointed when he’s been given a chance to talk about this as it seems to mainly be platitudes - perhaps this isn’t surprising as he wasn’t much a ‘student of the game’ by his own accounts. A player like Xabi on the other hand has gravitas (albeit different) allied with a capacity to communicate and a career spent absorbing tactics. If I have to pick an ex player to manage us in the future, he’s the one I’d want.

With a bunch of Citeh loanees they’d never normally be able to afford.

My mistake, one from
Citeh (a bloody good one) but 5 other ones from Prem clubs (and one from a Bundesliga club) no doubt helped by Kompany’s stature. That is an inherent advantage that Stevie won’t have.

Why would Steven Gerrard not have that statue?

Let’s be honest I doubt Coutinho would have gone Villa without him, whatever your thinking about the transfer of Coutinho in general.

Kompany has done really well so far, let’s see what happens next.

Hmmmmm

Get back to coaching academy graduates at Liverpool Stevie. You probably need some time around Klopp and Co before doing the manager role again. Either that or risk becoming a joke like Lampard as a manager.

He had a splendid time at Rangers but i think it needs to be remembered that he had his support team there as well and it began to go downhill for him once his assistant left Villa.

He can play a very useful role in any club , just not sure it’s the top level job as of now.

Al Wattifaq.

If that’s where he wants to go then the best of luck to him.

I had just assumed it was one of the 4 PIF clubs - turns out its not - interesting that it’s not I thought.

Same same but different. The other clubs are owned by the Saudi Government through the Ministry of Sports…

Is this name for real…sounds like WTF…

Best mates with lads responsible for murders all over Europe and now taking Saudi money hmmm

yeah dissapointing.

just out of interest, who is he ‘best mates with?’

The Neville’s.

And the Nevilles are responsible for a continent wide murder spree?

His daughter is going out with the son of a known Kinahan gang member. Gerrard was pictured a few months ago during his visit to Ireland hanging with people who are foot soldiers for the Kinahan gang. I wouldn’t say he is best mates with them. He was only there because of his daughter.

Still not very smart of him either.
