The TAN Alternative World Cup

This one has a few player interviews (I think it’s from 2002). Touches on the Austrian Wunderteam and their fate. As @cynicaloldgit said though, not much footage of the matches.

It’s no major issue if you are going make a really well made documentary I know it wouldn’t show you much but it will tell you the story and I’d be open to watching it.

It’s a topic that would be watchable.

Think the first half at least is worth a watch, it covers the 1934 World Cup (more the corruption around it than the football itself).

77% vote for Hungary to beat the greatest most beautiful national football team ever…

Shower of bastards the lot of you!

Board is full of Scots and youngsters

That can be the only logical explanation for the fact that Hungary didn’t get 100% of the vote.

I voted for them by the way I read a biography about them some years ago.

Sorry but I’ve had that all my life and so it gets to the point where you just feel you can’t say anything else.

I’ve deleted anyhow no worries :slightly_smiling_face:

Are we getting the whole lot or 2 a day?

I’ll post the whole lot in one go, simply so that people have a longer window in which to vote.

In fact, I might as well do them now…

On a personal note, all four of my top-ranked teams have made it this far. Sadly, two of them are playing each other here, so one will be on the plane home.

Voting will close at some point after the England v France match on Saturday, depending on how drunk I am.

Just a thought… now we are down to a select few, listing a few words/reasons why a certain team is chosen as such… it might help showcase these particular teams in a better light…

FWIW… I have voted for one team only throughout the rounds…
Brazil 1970
The reason being that within 4years of the team that won it in 1966 containing Jackie Charlton, Nobby Stiles, Ray Wilson etc… good footballers I suppose in their own right… To then watch the magic produced in 1970 by Brazil with 5 attacking footballers pertaining the calibre of Jairzinho - Pele - Gerson - Tostao - Rivelino
Was a relative youngster at the time, but can still remember watching every game alongside my grandfather as he sat on the edge of his chair jumping up every few minutes due to the goals scored and the skills the team showed in each of their games… he had never seen anything like it before
Even today, I still think football in general took a giant leap forward in 1970 after many witnessed how they played with such ruthless fluidity… :+1:

That’s absolutely right COG… but what I am judging this on was from a guy who followed football in the UK from an early age. Sent off to war and suffered terrible hardship as a prisoner in that war… He continued to follow football around the country as best he could thereafter. He watched lots of WC games in 1966 in the flesh with his faithful wooden rattle going everywhere with him… To see him watching that Brazil side on a colour TV in 1970 and take such enjoyment from the games played, which he said were far beyond anything he had ever witnessed himself before… I have watched a re-run of those games myself many times over the years, alongside all the WC games ever since… (until this one I might add), great teams like Holland AKA Cruyff etc, West Germany with Gerd Mueller and Franz Beckenbauer… and yet my line of thinking for the voting mode for Brazil 1970 above… to me, they changed football for the better at that time

Important update: due to a clerical error (I have made a mistake and not picked up on it before now), the Dutch team you are voting for or against is actually the 1974 incarnation, not the 1978 team.

Apologies for the error- I usually post these early on the morning and must have been half asleep.

Given that the consensus is that the 1974 side was actually superior, I doubt the mistake has made any material difference to voting.

I cannot edit the poll, as it would reset the scores to zero, so please remember it will be Netherlands 1974 if they go forward to the semis.
