The Titantic is much bigger than the Atlantic Ocean. It wouldn’t dare drag us down to the seabed and crush us under the weight of 12,500 feet of water.
There seems to be a few arguments which have expanded since discussion over the weekend, which was, as to whether City should in effect be punished that heavily that they cannot go on. They have now mutated into wild considerations of reversing the findings, innocence etc. This isnt going to happen at all. The ground now is whether City can leave a mark on proceedings with a technicality brought on Appeal, but also, the extent of sanctions.
The argument that City get to survive, though heavily cleaned out of Abu Dhabi, is a contractual one relating to proportionality of remedy, in that, it would be disproportionate to extinguish the club, given they had a prior mostly unfettered relationship as a PL member from its inception, until the oil poured in. This is a very strong argument to limit the extent of sanctions, so that they, say, suffer a 5years down turn and emerge at the same position they were but for Abu Dhabi as was back in 2008.
Looking at the potential points deductions as a totting up exercise leads to absurdity, if Everton’s 6 point reduction is any precedent, City are looking at a total points deduction likely well in excess of 700points Which is completely unworkable.
This is why it appears a direct expulsion is the PL only option here. You just cannot give 700 points deductions, whats that 50 a season for 14yrs?
The PL have a real proper headache here sorting out the sanctions.
Cheers. Information that i had never seen before. ![]()
Findings of fact, and particularly how the tribunal viewed oral and written evidence, would only be reversed if their findings were perverse and ones that no reasonable tribunal could (not would!) come to.
Or if one of the members of the panel was an Arsenal fan
99% of those posting on Bluemoon are fantasising about burning everything to the ground and crushing the ‘red cartel’ into the dirt.
The vast majority appear to be old-school, I-was-there-when-we-were-shit types.
People should bear this in mind when worrying how they will cope when reality kicks in, if it ever does.
I hear you. We are in uncharted waters with Man City as we have never seen anything like this. We also don’t know to what extent government interference might take this beyond a sporting matter.
Still, in the spirit of the thread, with many people giving a viewpoint on what they think might happen in terms of sanctions, I offered an opinion too.
I think all titles should be stripped. Then beyond that it’s anyone’s guess.
Everton were docked 6 points for one charge. Of course their wrongdoing is not nearly in the same sort of ballpark as Man City. Still, just taking that simple principle and extrapolating it out gave an alarming result: If one charge saw a 6 point deduction, I would laugh my head off if 114 charges brought a 684 point deduction!
It won’t happen, but it gave me pause for thought.
If the stadium was taken away/sold. I don’t want the scum being allowed to have it fora knockdown price or free. So i think i would be against that idea
I want Man City to survive, but not in its current guise. I want to see serious sanctions that prompt a reset. Titles stripped, dropping down the levels, that sort of thing. It would likely mean the owners leave, or are forced to leave, and the money wont be there to keep the current team and squad.
For the old time City fan they might get a certain satisfaction in seeing their house cleaned.
Back in the day they were known for having a decent sized fan base for being in a lower level (this was after Summerbee and Bell. Etc.)
Perhaps the same sort of story might emerge out of this? A dedicated core of thousands of proper Man City fans (the glory hunters will be gone) who get behind their team and support its rise back up through the levels, over a period of years, with all the ups and downs that would bring.
I would not begrudge them that.
Every title stripped from 2009 till now as it was all won by cheating.
Send them down to the championship or further with no chance of coming back up to the PL for 10 years.(ie the PL won’t accept you)
Transfer ban on incoming for 5 years
Compensation for those Clubs/Players who have lost out
100% transparency
Owners and executives gone
This means that by the time this has all shaken out they be back to the point where they can become a mid table team as they were before(at best) all this cheating. They will still survive as a club and can use whatever memories, fan gained etc to try grow again but this time in the right way.
The problem with that is they gave the opposite story to the investigation that Ettihad Airways gave to a US investigation into State owned airlines back in 2015.
So the question is, did City lie to the Premier League investigation or did Ettihad lie to the US Government?
If I were to hazard a guess, City lied to the PL and the IC. Lying to the US government on oath is a mad thing. You can get a fine and possibly a jail term. Lying to the PL and the IC carries no such penalties.

If you want to expel Man City,it would need 2/3 of all the clubs ( at least 14 clubs) in top flight to vote yes on the motion to expel Man City.
As for points deduction, there is no hard and fast rules to go by. The other points deduction we saw are self-reported and/or full cooperation with the PL. The points that you saw deducted in other clubds are considered with leniency already.
This has to go down as the most repetitive thread ever… so much speculation based on so little intuition..
Do you not remember the yearly Liverpool sing bent thread?

Oh I don’t know. Relegated with the loss of 70 points and then relegated for the next 10 times they make it back to the PL (if ever).
What they did has destroyed teh sporting integrity of the PL for about half it’s entire existence. Systemically and with a refusal to acknowledge their behaviour. A punishment like that is surely not implausible nor too harsh.

You should have left the accidental double post in ![]()
I actually meant to but it wouldn’t let me. .![]()
Let’s be crystal clear here.
Neither City or their fucking vitriolic toxic fanbase aren’t remotely interested in being viewed as innocent.
Getting off with it by any means is all that matters.
To be fair most transfer posts are a bit like this.
There is a reason why I, after I made the mistake to reply when I was 700 posts off, just shrugged and have now decided that I have missed very little regarding the 600 or so unread.
At current, no one seems to know anything much and the thread seems to be wishlisting (mostly). There is knowledge in between the wishlisting, but 600 posts is too much to read to maybe spot 10-15 posts that I could learn from.
I want to know which punishment/s are most likely (and I doubt they could lose titles for seasons they are charged with no wrongdoing for, but I see wishlisting regarding that here too) and how likely it is that verdict will be upheld.
@Kopstar has been a help though, so I try to read his posts in this thread.
