The TV Thread redux (Part 2)

That was part of the point… It shows how far away he is now, to what he was a short while back…

BBC IPLAYER

TIME. 3rd series came out on sunday. Different cast each series. A must watch. 3rd series is heartbreaking.. be warned.

Netflix has a short 6 parter about a monster terrorizing a Newfoundland fishing village with Josh Hartnet and Charlie Heaten and its pretty disposable but really enjoyable so far.

Watched all 3 episodes, pretty gritty…

Didn’t expect the ending either

This is a great episode if you like gritty and dark, well the whole show is. You might have seen it already though.

I’m surprised that series hasn’t been on more streaming services internationally. Maybe it’s a bit of an oddity: a British anthology series with a rep cast. However, Black Mirror has a very similar format.

It’s to do with production partnerships as far as I can tell. A good amount of British TV these days, even at the BBC, now is made in partnership with some other international production company or streamer. They put up the bulk of the money and with that they get the international streaming rights. The stuff they continue to produce wholy in house they will sell internationally as part of a standalone British tv package. In the US that is primarily BritBox, which is seemingly where this is available for me, but that is a bit of a niche service because very little high profile stuff gets funded in that way these days.

The madness i find is that a lot BBC stuff ends up on britbox.. and if i want to watch it .. then i have to pay.. despite having help fund the BBC and the making of the program by paying for my tv licence :joy: bastards!

Watched it back in the day, I was in bits by the end. Incredible episode.

I tried watching The Boys. Not for me.

Is it one of those were the trailer has all the best bits?

I enjoyed the first two or three seasons, but haven’t been back for the more recent ones. It’s definitely not run of the mill super hero series, very adult in terms of approach (sex and violence) and meant more as black comedy/satire. As they went on I think they felt the need to outdo the previous series and it just got too ridiculous for me.

It swallowed itself. Became the thing it was satirising.

Yeah I hurt my eye balls with how hard I rolled them every time urban was on screen by the penultimate series
