If you watch it without much expectations, you will be entertained. One good thing about it is that it’s short.
Started Wednesday on Netflix. Two episodes in and enjoying it. Very much vintage Tim Burton.
Only just finished it myself and it far exceeded my expectations. A good story, not overly goofy or childish and some beautiful set pieces. Jenna Ortega was a fantastic casting choice, she absolutely nailed the role and the much shared dance scene was fantastic. I also loved some of the musical numbers they did (Noting Else Matters and Paint it Black in particular).
Was nice to see Gwendoline Christie cast in such a prominent role that allowed her to showcase her beauty for once as well.
Really enjoying some of the old repeats on TV over Christmas.
Best repeat of the lot was England being knocked out of the World Cup though

Binged the final season of His Dark Materials on Iplayer. Quality television and sad it’s over. A very good adaption of the books - although I haven’t read the books for many years now; might read them again soon. The actress who played Lyra was very good, and James McAvoy was a brilliant Asriel. Ruth Wilson was the star of the show though, and I’m not just saying that because I have a crush on her. The real driving force behind the show and the most compelling performance - her portrayal of Marissa Coulter over the past three seasons has been excellent and the journey the character went on felt fully realised and believable.
Jnr talked me into watching Wednesday. Seriously good stuff. The girl in the lead is deliciously acerbic, spikey, vicious and down right unpleasant in the best possible way. On Ep3 now. It’s Stranger Things set in Hogwarts with Tim Burton’s alter female child’s daughter in the lead with a side order of Once Upon a Time.
I’ve got a seven year old and an eleven year old. Suitable?
I’ve heard good things about it, but also that there are bits that are a bit grim for kids.
Willow series is very average. Just watched first 4 episodes.
Haven’t bothered. I was gutted it was pitched as a twelve, which is fucking ridiculous. It’s Willow for gods sake. It’s Lord of the Rings for kids (which isn’t meant as an insult).
My youngest watched the original film recently and loved it, but I’m not sitting him down in front of the new one.
For all the shit that get thrown around about ‘wokeism’ for me a far more worrying trend is the tendency to remake/revive classic kids IPs and basically exclude kids. At some point someone is going to remake ‘rentaghost’ but make it dark and edgy.

My favourite TV show of the last few years. It’s so good. But then, it is based on my favourite books ever.
I’m up to episode three. No binge watching. I’m really trying to make it last and savour every moment.
My only slight disappointment with it is that it shows just how shit Doctor Who has become (it’s largely made by the same people who brought back Doctor Who originally)

Thanks for the heads up, Will avoid.

Don’t. It’s absolutely brilliant.

Don’t think it’s suitable for a seven year old. Watched with my 13 year old.
Youre depriving yourself. The books are very good and the adaption is faithful and excellent. Strong cast and script. Ruth Wilson is a godsend.
I’ve read the books. It’s just the Dr Who revival has been shite from start to finish, so it’s not much of an incentive to bother with anything else they made.

Brilliant! Only seen a couple of episodes on dailymotion but they were poor quality. Looking forward to this.
I hate the response, it depends on the kids. I’d have been happy to show Jnr at 7. There’s nothing horrible in it. The odd bit is a little risky but the benefits outweigh any tiny issues.
Edit just checked with Jnr. Language is prevalent. Violence no worse than Harry Potter though.

Fixed that one for you.
Seriously, give Dark Materials a go. It’s made by Bad Wolf studios, but it’s tonally miles away from Doctor Who.
Been meaning to watch it. Loved the trilogy so much I was a bit afraid it wouldn’t live up to my expectations.

Oh no. It totally does the books justice. It helps that Phillip Pullman is involved as a producer. Some aspects are an improvement on the books. Introducing Will from the start rather than the second book makes much more sense. And that it is treated as one story rather than a trilogy works really well.

Oh it was fine how it was thanks.
