Fortunately, none of these things determine if a film is good or bad. Just take a look at ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’.
Bernardo Silva has proved himself across every relevant metric in football. By any objective measure he is a really, really good football player.
But I don’t like him, so that makes him shite.
Fixed for accuracy
So. You folks are talking about Golden Compass and some other book in the last 15 posts. Right?
In summation, the Golden Compass (based on the book of the same name)was a well made film with decent acting, but I did not enjoy it due to the narrative choices compared to the book on which it was based.
The recent His Dark Materials series is based on the full trilogy containing the same book, and is apparently better than the film, however it was made by the people responsible for the new Doctor Who, which looks cheap, is poorly acted by most almost everyone involved other than Eccleston and Tennant, and feels like it was written by a child; all of which makes it shit in comparison to good tv shows.
Of course this is all only my opinion and others disagree.
Sold! Gonna start on it soon, thanks!!
Yeah I was eagerly awaiting that and it was such a disappointment
If you are going to swerve Dark Materials based on that, then you are cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I’m sure I’ll get over it.
Did you enjoy the books?
Yes, very much.
Then you will love the TV adaptation. Please don’t write it off because it was made by a production company founded by some of the people involved in the Doctor Who reboot. You’d be doing yourself a massive disservice.
They also did the adaptation of A Discovery of Witches, which I also didn’t enjoy (though I have not read the source material). Again it seemed cheap and poorly acted. So I’m quite happy to give it a miss.
Your loss.
As I say, I’m sure I’ll get over it.
Current level of regret of not watching Rings of Power or House of the Dragon = zero.
But if you have never sucked a dick before, how would you know there are no regrets?
House of dragon was shit, but enjoyed rings of power. Gave up on house of dragons after 4 episodes.
Im running through the supposed best of Apple TV right now to see if I can watch everything worth watching and then dump the subscription (at least until Ted Lasso comes back). Blackbird was mediocre (mentioned above) and Surface is proper shit. Not seeing too much value in it so far.
I think the next one I’m going to try is For All Mankind - an alternative history take on what would have happened had the Soviets beaten the US to the moon. If that is no good Im just going to junk it without trying anything else.
House of the Dragon was a huge disappointment after GOT, only really becoming better in the last episode (perhaps to keep people hooked for season 2).
I’ve never watched any of the Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Dr Who (since I was about 10), any of that nauseating Fantastic 4 nonsense, or anything with The Rock.
Level of regret - Zero
Have you tried Slow Horses?
Yes. I was waiting for all of S2 to become available before starting it, and I think I should have done that before starting Surface. So thanks for the reminder.
