What?! Why?!
Bloody GREAT show. Of all the things to cancel
Donât know. Presumably the viewing figures werenât great and it was expensive to make? I think they are somewhat desperate to cut back their spending on shows and have cancelled a number of shows early (I loved the live action version of Cowboy Bebop)
Not the greatest example as it was always going to fall short of the epic original anime. And the anime is so well loved that the reaction against it would be harsh
This sucks. I hope somehow they find a way to finish their remaining 2 seasons. But this is the situation now. The excesses of the past 10 years or so of streaming have gone and I think weâre about to go into an era of less content overall, certainly less prestige content and likely controversial cancellations like this.
Used to really enjoy Netflix, but for at least a year if not more I hardly find anything that interests me anymore. Was thinking about cancelling it a few times, but then there was always like one series coming along I or the Mrs wanted to watch. Not sure if itâs worth it anymore.
ROP was wank. HOTD was really excellent. Highly recommended.
Sheâll be narrating the animated series set a few hundred years before the two towers. As a part of Tolkeins IP im sure all duscussion about and reaction to this series will be reasonable
Personally think I might actually watch that.
Also, shoutout to Detectorists for a lovely special. One of my favourite programmes of the past decade and the recent special didnt disappoint.
Dragonsâ Den and The Apprentice back tomorrow night.
Thatâs my Thursday nights sorted again for the next few months.
This looks fun,
Watching His Dark Materials the series. Bloody hell it looks good. Infinitely better than the visual bilge poured out by Disney of late. Some odd changes from the book but still enjoyable.
Just finished the third series. Itâs absolutely brilliant.
Phillip Pullman is a producer on the show, by the way, and has given his backing to the changes. Especially introducing Will in series one.
It also means I can finally read âBook of Dustâ which Iâve had on the shelf for ages, but wanted to finish the TV series first.
Just spotted that Lin Manuel Miranda is in it. Yet another good reason for me to give it a miss.
???
I got PTSD after watching Hamilton.
Iâve started His Dark materials, a few episodes in.
A little underwhelmed so far, itâs rather slow and boring.
I watched His Dark Materials over Christmas when I was unwell. Very impressed as well. Itâs remarkable how little difference there is between TV and film production standards now.
I think that benefitted from very strong source material. Thereâs only so far that eye-candy can paper over a poor plot.
I agree but if youâve watched Rings of Power, there are breathtaking scenes for sure but also knights in printer armor. In a billion dollar show. Compare the Polar Bear (Berek?) to She Hulk. The other side is Avatar. Looks gorgeous, dreadful plot weâve seen many many times before. Dances with Poccohantis in space.
On the plot tweaks, if somebody can explain the plot relevance of the gay angels Iâd be impressed. Unless I missed that in the books. A scene that just honked and quacked. Should have had a caption saying âLOOK AT THIS, WEâRE DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE AND MODERN!!!â
