The TV Thread redux

Have you watched Yellowstone? Going to embark on on this week. Tempted by Tulsa King too.

Yellowstone is ok. I get the initial attraction, but it grew tiresome for me very quickly. It’s far more soap opera than the legit prestige TV that it is often represented as being. It feels like someone saw one scene of GOT where Cersei was arguing with her dad and saidā€¦ā€œlets do this, but in cowboy hats.ā€

I gave it 2 seasons and couldnt get back into it for anymore after that.

Yeah, I liked the initial Yellowstone season, but each season they come back, it’s…bigger and better problems!! Old school TV with no specific endpoint in mind, just milking the cash cow at this point, so writers just keep spinning bigger and more fantastical problems for characters to deal with. To the point where I watched one episode of season 5 and never went back to it.

It’s fun TV though, the first few seasons are great entertainment, some of the characters are fun to spend time with. I get why it’s so popular.

I’m finally getting around to House of the Dragon and I think I quite like it. More of an old-school GoT story with backroom politicking about succession which is a pleasant pace after the rushed final seasons of GoT.

Comparing it to Rings of Power and I would say it is better than Rings of Power. Then again, the source material is better so it should be really.

First two episodes of Barry were good

Normally I’d wait until more was available to binge a bit, but this being the final season and it finally getting a lot of attention, this feels like one I should watch in real time. Going to try to catch up tonight or tomorrow.

Bill Hader is a treasure, but my lowdown favourite is Akhmal., the King of Suckball Mountain. His joy in the background of the scene last season when riding the open top bus and passing Kimmel was beautiful.

Erm, to clarify, the source material for GOT is better than that of Tolkien’s books? We might have to have a chat about this….

Anyone watched People of Earth? Not bad but light on both the comedy and the mystery aspects

Way better.

Gives me hope. I’ve been half way through the penultimate series for a long while now - and wasn’t sure if I’d get round to picking it back up. Maybe I will now.

Finished the series now. Thought it was excellent. Found myself pausing at times to read up on things going on out there.

Not got round to starting it yet.
Looking forward to it.

Just home from work, head still in night shift mode so binged Your Honour series 2.
Very good.

Bit late to the show, but been getting through this the last couple of weeks, and so far it’s been quiet enjoyable. One of the few series I have enjoyed right through.

Kudos for your perseverance.
I gave up after 30 minutes

Picard season 3 ep 10 is magic

Dubbing? I didn’t see any dubbing when I watched it.

Were you watching in American subs or something? I didn’t get any weird dubbing at all. I hate shit like that, and would too have stopped watching it had it been like that when I watched it - or maybe I just don’t have as keen an ear.

Assume you watched on Netflix?

I’m not that into period drama’s but must admit, ive been enjoying Great Expectations on BBC1,its a 6 parter on episode 4 at the moment (i havent checked but they could all be out on BBCi player) ,its a typical Steven Knight (Taboo,Peaky Blinders writer) adaptation, with a dark and grimy slant on it.

Weird. If I could be bothered, I’d go back and watch the first few episodes and see if I can spot it…but I can’t
