The TV Thread redux

On Netflix lftikhar, Bordertown is good also

Yessss, I was meaning to list that. Few others have suggested it. Thanks.

Trapped season 1 is gold

Yeah, but what about season 2???

Thereā€™s good European series in Netflix, but often they are too/unnecessarily long.

Iā€™ve not seen it yet but Iā€™ve been recommended Midnight Mass, supposed to be good.

Seen the first ep of Chestnut Man, pretty good so far

I wasnā€™t impressed, but itā€™s all subjective.

Binge watched Squid Games, thoroughly enjoyed it even though the ending was a bit eh. Intrigued to see how they proceed with the next season.

It was crap. Not as crap as the ending to Midnight Mass, though.

finally done with the last season of Brooklyn 99. Hit and a miss but I reckon they did the last episode pretty well.

Yeah me too. Ending was disappointing for what was otherwise a good show.

Seems like a hell of a lot of fantasy shows coming out within a year between this, LOTR, WoT, and The Witcher season 2.

Just watched the latest series of Mr Mercedes.

First season was awesome, second ok and third season pretty good.

Brendan Gleeson - one of my favourite actors.

If only they ended the last season with some sense and logic, I would have been way more excited by this. Probably D&D arenā€™t involved in this one, so thereā€™s hope?

I find Most endings to a tv show are disappointing

Agreed 100%. And I donā€™t want to shade anyoneā€™s opinions that has not seen it yet but I thought it was massively overrated. And I wanted to love it. The plodding and deliberate pace was maddening and the acting felt entirely too forced.

Also, not to go philosophical but this so called ā€œconversationā€ about religion and fanaticism the hipster online community is trying to force revolving around this series, I didnā€™t at all take away anything even remotely close to such a concept. :man_shrugging:

My family and I all enjoyed Midnight Mass. I think it definitely provokes questions about religion and life but if you arenā€™t of a mind to contemplate those things anyway then it probably wonā€™t and itā€™s just an entertaining limited series. I guess the more you take into, the more you will get out of it.

Not sure if itā€™s already available in English or with English subtitles but Iā€™ve started ā€™ The Billion Dollar Codeā€™ on Netflix yesterday. Itā€™s a German mini series (4 episodes, around 60 minutes each) that fictionalizes the story of two Berlin internet pioneers who attempt to prove that Google stole their idea, worth billions.

I think I know those guys. They called it ā€˜Globalegeograpischeortundnavigationstechnikā€™ and wondered why it never caught on.

I thought it was excellent.

Like some of Flannaghanā€™s other work, the creepiness dissipates as the plot becomes clear and he works on closing out the story, but I thought the choices he made for how to close it up were really clever. And some of the best scenes of the whole thing were the ones where Zach Gilford was just having conversations, notable with the priest and then his ex. Iā€™m a huge Matt Saracen (friday night lights) fan so am probably pretty biased.

Shout out to the end of season 2 of Ted Lasso this weekend. Itā€™s just so good. Itā€™s such a thin concept that it seems like it should have been exhausted in half an episode, but they continue to find really funny and charming content. The character arcs of supporting characters in Jamie, Roy and Nate are amazing.

One of the things Iā€™ve appreciated about it as a Brit whoā€™s lived in the US for 20+ years is how well theyā€™ve done the British-US cultural confusion thing. I donā€™t know if Sudekis or Bill Lawrence have ever liked in the UK, but itā€™s really difficult to think that this stuff could have been written by someone who has not lived it.
