The TV Thread redux

Piers Morgan claims he was never in Home Alone…
This picture as proof always does the rounds at Christmas… :0)

Why don’t you guys watch Die Hard for Christmas ?

I agree with the caveat that I’ve not seen Bridgerton. Heard enough about it to know it’s something that I won’t like.

I’ve never seen it, but I’ve seen ads for it and it seems to be full of lovely dukes and duchesses from all around the world.

Yeah , so England’s royalty has had all colours.

Mainly shades of pink.

It’s a farcical drama kind of show with some other genres thrown in there. Bit of comedy, bit of mystery etc.

It’s in no way meant to be an accurate representation of history and isn’t pretending to be.

The wife and I watched season 1 years ago and thought it was fun disposable TV.

It just seemed like the most blatant of these shows that try to represent a past that is much more multicultural than it really was. That’s ok up to a point, but when every depiction of 18th century Worcestershire is full of Chinese/African/Indian gentry it starts to a) become tiresome, and b) skew perceptions of what society was really like in those days.

Yeah I get what your saying. I think in Bridgerton it’s quite explicit when watching it that you’re meant to be watching historical fantasy. It’s essentially an alternative history like Man in the High Castle but instead of the Nazis winning WWII its “What if the Regency era was multicultural”.

I doesn’t work with every show, I agree, but in Bridgerton it quickly fades from relevancy.

The Day of the Jackal is one of my favourite shows in years, loved every episode. Has to be Redmayne’s best piece of work. Would’ve cleared it in a day if I could find the time no problem, well one problem - I couldn’t find the time…

Looking forward to seeing SAS: Rogue Heros return for a 2nd season, hopefully they continue the great work they did with the 1st season.

I finished watching Bond’s Spectre. It was quite okay, better than No Time to Die.

I saw the 3rd one on a long flight. Good stuff. 2nd is the weakest in my opinion but still good.

Its abit boring parts, it is still on and I lost concentration with it abit. I really liked the 3rd film, mainly due to the scenic Italian flavour and setting along the Amalfi coast. I saw it in the cinema so it looked so scenic.

Watched a very enjoyable documentary called “From Roger Moore With Love”. Do recommend it! Steve Coogan narrates in the first person as Roger himself.

Still bored with it. I know the scenes with Juliette diving is supposed be dramatic, but I just find myself looking at my watch wondering how much run time they can chew up it. That’s kind of representative of how this season is going for me.

This was fantastic. I understand the reception in Britain has been less praiseworthy for what is viewed as being overly sympathetic, but it feels to me a treatment focusing on the human motivations of those on the other side of a conflict is something that is pretty important these days.

It hasn’t been a great year for TV IMO, but with this and 100 Years of Solitude I got the best two shows of the year in right at the end.

Curve ball - I am 3/4 the way through Industry S3 and it is sensational. The first two seasons were hit and miss for me. Sometimes compelling, but a lot of the time it felt like they were being scandalous for the sake of it because you can get away with it on HBO. The third season though is a big pay off for having stayed with it.

Watching S2 of House of the Dragon, on episode 3 now. It’s decent enough but I must say, even as someone who didn’t really “get” the constant crying about how Game of Thrones was too gruesome, that HotD just seems to be going for the shock factor an awful lot.

Episode 1 - murdering a child in their sleep and, while it wasn’t done on screen, having us listen to the sound of them cutting their head off.
Episode 2 - Twin brothers fighting to the death and then the survivor stabbing himself to death
Episode 3 - A lingering side profile of a woman just straight up sucking dick

I’m not usually one to care about these things but I think they are trying too hard to do porn and/or snuff films, even though the murder of the child is key to the plot there wasn’t really any need for us to hear a child’s head being cut off (the twins of the King’s Guard are, I guess, plot related but I don’t think anything is lost by them not being in the story. Maybe I forgot but I didn’t even know who they are.). A lot of it is not really adding anything.
