The TV Thread redux

I’m a huge fan of Dark Winds. Great acting, great scenery, great plot, excellent series, but totally annoyed by season 3 episode 6.
It’s the old ‘dream sequence’ episode, where the main character goes off into a dream and has conversations with dead people and all that shit. Totally boring and a distraction from the plot.
So many series do this. Why? It’s indulgent and a distraction from the narrative.
Scriptwriters, stop it!

I didnt even know they’d come back for a S3

I just finished the two new high profile ones on Apple.

Friends and Neighbors with John Hamm, as already discussed, is a massive disappointment. It’s stupid, and as much charasima as Hamm has it is cancelled out by the stupidity of it all, how horrible everyone in it is, and Munn’s wooden acting.

The Studio with Seth Rogan is delightful. The episode where they wrestle with concerns of racist casting for the Koolaid film was some of the best tv I’ve ever seen.

I’ve seen the first two seasons and really enjoyed them, so look forward to seeing the 3rd one when it lands in the UK.

Sirens not my usual fare, but entertaining in its way. On episode 4 now, will probably be a couple of days until I watch the finale

The comedic spy thriller, based on Mick Herron’s Slough House novels and starring Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, has enjoyed widespread critical and commercial acclaim since its debut in 2022.

Now, hot on the heels of the 2024 series, the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning show is preparing for its return.

Slow Horses season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, 25th September 2025, exclusively on Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ had previously hinted at a summer release, with the series featured in a preview shared in April showcasing the platform’s upcoming line-up.

In season 5, the Slow Horses find themselves investigating a string of increasingly bizarre incidents across the city, trying to uncover how they’re all connected.

The series will also shine a spotlight on Roddy Ho and his glamorous new girlfriend, whose sudden presence has raised eyebrows among the Slough House team.

The upcoming release of season 5 marks a quick turnaround, with season 4 having aired just over a year ago in September 2024. This continues the show’s impressive pace, having delivered four series in just three years.

And if you’re concerned that the rapid succession of new series signals the end for Slow Horses, rest assured: a sixth season has already been confirmed. It will feature guest star Lenny Rush and the return of Hugo Weaving as Frank Harkness.

Looking further ahead, showrunner Will Smith has expressed his desire to adapt the entire book series, which currently includes eight novels—with a ninth expected later this year—so it seems the Slow Horses won’t be slowing down any time soon.

Slow Horses season 5 arrives on 25th September 2025 on Apple TV+

I miss Dear White People!

I am 3 episodes in and I have no idea what I’m watching. It’s an incredibly weird show, and so I’m not sure I could stick with it if it was a full episode order. So the fact it is only 5 episodes makes me think the creators understand exactly what they’re doing with it, even if I dont.

I did like that Glen Howerton owns a boat in this though. You know…

Watched the first few episodes of Stick last night and enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of series pans out.

Catching up with the latest season of Black Mirror. Just came to say that Paul Giamatti is an absolute heavyweight and one of the most underrated actors of all time.
