Just started “The Hunting Party”. It seems like an interesting concept, will report back after first episode.
Episode 1 completed, enjoying it. 10 episodes in total.
Strongly recommend a Danish series on BBC iPlayer, called Families Like Ours.
Watched the first two episodes of The Residence on Netflix, a murder mystery show set in the White House.. I hadn’t heard of it before but am enjoying it a lot.
Love the Swiss production sets in this year’s Eurovision in Basel.
Andor has now finished and it was an absolutely remarkable piece of TV.
So far a decent season overall of Who with a couple of very strong episodes.
Two episodes to go and a more interesting reveal over Mrs flood, than the damp squib of how they dealt with ruby last season. Hopefully the two part finale delivers well on it.
This has completely disappeared from visibility in the US since it went to Disney. I have the app now for Andor and thinking back I am not sure I even saw it promoted in the app in the limited time I have been in it (open app → find Andor–> watch Andor–> close app)
Haven’t been watching the newer seasons of Dr Who. But have started re-watching some of the older seasons (currently on Jon Pertwee’s time as the Doctor) as they are currently being shown on one of the cable channels. I’m surprised that my daughter is also enjoying it.
Watching Long Way Home on Apple, Ewan McGregor’s 4th show about him and his buddy Charlie riding a long way on motorcycles. This one he’s riding around Europe. It’s an enjoyable watch. For those that have seen the other 3 (wife loves them so I’ve seen them) - first one was London to New York, second was Scotland to South Africa, third was Southern tip of South America to LA - this one is a lot more laid back and more enjoyable for me. The other 3 it’s more like they had to grit their teeth and do it even though they weren’t having fun driving on roads never meant for motorcycles and overcoming xyz on the road. This one is like a 2 month holiday putzing around Europe. It’s mindless fun if you don’t have anything else to watch or you have to wait until 9pm to get the new The Last of Us and you need a filler to get you there.
It seems very limited promotion in Germany as well. I know it’s on Disney because I specifically look for it, but I have seen more promotion of Tele5 showing the old David Tennant episodes.
I bought a few of the Bluray sets when I was last in Liverpool. Currently about to start watching Pertwee’s third series, which was roughly where I started seeing it in the 1970s.
I started with Tom Baker. I think that might be where my love of scarves, jelly babies and dogs came from (or maybe that was from watching Dastardly and Muttley)
Just binged watched until 4am all 9 episodes of Department Q on netflix. Quite enjoyed it.
I did the same, but fell asleep before before episode 8, it’s been enjoyable so far, looking forward to seeing how they wrap it all up.
Better finale than last time, but still fell a bit flat to me. RTD does struggle a bit with endings. The big reveal at the end of the episode is one sure to make a lot of fans happy though
Interesting credit as well. I do wonder what he has planned.
I dunno, he seems stuck and is relying on nostalgia (not an inherently bad thing in a time travel show, but shouldn’t be a crutch for the show).
No goodbye for Ruby felt wrong, unless she’s back for the next season. The Rani death felt rushed and wasteful of a well cast villain. Omega felt wasted and rushed. Don’t think he remotely has a plan for Mrs Flood. Definitely some high points in the finale, Ruby got a stronger showing in Belinda’s finale than in her own. Jodie was a great cameo. The Conrad solution I thought was good. Nice for Belinda to get happy ending given that’s not the norm for companions in NuWho. Piper is an excellent actress and should do a good job, but tbh does feel like trying to hook people in with nostalgia.
Personally think RTD would serve better as an overseer, majority of the better episodes this season weren’t written by him. He should be a loremaster type showrunner with some new blood given the opportunity to write. There must be talented younger writers who’s ideas we haven’t seen yet. Also feels like RTD has lost the deftness and instead bludgeons you with his point. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but shouldn’t be norm.
Have started watching Murderbot. Have liked the first 4 episodes.
Watched this Danish series years ago and thought it was brilliant… Turns out it has been adapted for Netflix -
Department Q (Danish: Afdeling Q ) is a series of ten Danish Nordic noir crime novels by author Jussi Adler-Olsen[1] which have been adapted in an ongoing series of highly successful Danish films and an English language TV adaptation for Netflix which changes the setting from Denmark to Scotland.
