The TV Thread redux

Probably need to really draw the show out so that GRRM can start writing more A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms novella.
Oh wait, they did the same with A Game of Thrones expecting GRRM to finish the damn books!

They did the opposite with GoT. Show runners thought they’d be getting a star wars gig, turned down hbos offer of more seasons, shat the bed, and lost the star wars gig. (Don’t think the rough outline of the ending will be majorly different in the books but so much more has been done to plant the seeds of it).

Also if they were dragging the show out there are so many plots lines from S4 onwards that would have been included and those they did allude to/attempt to include they would have done properly; not the rushed increasingly sloppy stuff they put out (especially s5-8, S4 saw it to some extent but what they included they did well). Instead they were more concerned with getting the show finished to move onto star wars

Ok, only a few will get this, but I’m the ultimate Wire fan.
If I ever do Mastermind, my topic will be ā€˜The Wire’.
I just found out that SBS here in Australia is showing Homicide. I’ve seen the Wire three times, the Corner twice, Treme a couple of times and am a huge David Simon fan. I know about Homicide, but I’ve never seen it, but now I can finally catch up.

Of course, I am…

Homicide: Life On The Street was so fresh and groundbreaking when it first aired in the early nineties. I became an instant fan of the show.
Sadly, in my opinion, the need for higher ratings over time led to network interference and replacement of some cast members by more ā€˜camera-friendly’ options as well as the ultimate deterioration in script quality, but the earlier seasons especially are a real treat.

Please don’t spoil it for me.

Have you seen We Own This City?

Another outstanding miniseries he did. Jon Bernthal put in one of the best performances out there in any series. Great stuff.

I absolutely love The Big Bang Theory. It’s actually a comfort watch for me (closely followed by reruns of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family).
Didn’t really mind young Sheldon. Didn’t really like it either, but the fact that it helped maintain the TBBT continuity somewhat meant that I did follow most of it. It had its moments.
But now with Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage as an old fashioned sitcom, I’m quite enjoying it. Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady have got a good formula going again. And I’m really looking forward to Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.

Sorry, was a bit over excited

I can imagine you’re right. That’s the trajectory of most US shows.

Yes, I saw that too. Also excellent. I really liked Treme, which a lot of people seem to have missed. Great music :+1:t4:

Funnily enough, my son watched that all the way through but has never seen TBBT. I suggested that we could watch that together, but he said that he wasn’t fussed about it. (I suspect it’s more the idea of watching telly with parents that’s the issue)

My daughters are into most shows that I’m into. But they’ve suddenly really taken to Taskmaster which for me is not bad but not something I would watch regularly. They can’t get enough of it!

I love Taskmaster. Half way through my second run through the whole thing. When I got hooked it was first thing to make me proper laugh out loud at the TV in years.

I enjoyed the early seasons on Dave and maybe the first 2 after it moved to Channel 4, but the later seasons have not been as good in my opinion

I’ve just watched the Amadeus miniseries on Sky.

It’s OK, but it seems to be stuck between two posts. It’s meant to be closer to the stage play than the film version (which it is) but it is still filmed with a single camera technique. I saw the stage play last year, and the miniseries lacks the intimacy of the play, whilst missing the broad cinematography of the film.

Still worth a watch if you are interested (the music alone makes it worthwhile) but I would rather see the play or film again.
