The TV Thread redux

The Witcher 1st season was awesome, but tough to understand and follow at times.

I have struggled with season 2 though, and have only managed to get through 4 episodes

Any suggestions for similar/fantasy movie/series???

nothing else I can think of.

Keep hearing rumours of Feistā€™s Riftwar series being done, but so far all attempts have ended up failing. Personally I would love to see the Empire series - the Nights of 1000 Swords would be a fucking awesome sight

You could check out RUROUNI KENSHIN
It is a sequence of 4no. 2hour plus Japanese filmsā€¦ (Sub Titles)
One from 2012ā€¦ Rurouni Kenshin - Origins
One from2014ā€¦ Rurouni Kenshin - Kyoto Inferno
and
Two from 2021ā€¦ Rurouni Kenshin - The Final
and Rurouni Kenshin - The Beginning
Not as far fetched as The Witcherā€¦
But worth watching for the sword fighting graphics and other stuff aloneā€¦ 8/10

I liked both seasons of The Witcher, binged it all in 2 days. Iā€™ve seen very negative receptions to it online but not really sure why.

This is my experience with it as well

Without wanting to presuppose your familiarity with the source material, from what Iā€™ve seen of the reaction to S2, those who arenā€™t at all/very familiar with it like it, and those who are familiar with it donā€™t (myself included).

Thereā€™s a few reasons for it - a popular character killed off who doesnā€™t die in the books or games (and imo their stated reasons for doing so are nonsensical), personalities of some characters changed completely, some major things that happen to characters donā€™t happen in the books, major plotlines have been completely invented by the show (and imo are pretty crap and boring) while plotlines and characters from the books have been omitted completely.

I made it 5 episodes into S2 before giving up on it, as ultimately the changes and deviations were too frustrating and the resulting product just a bit boring. About the only reason for continuing to watch (I may go back at some point) is Cavillā€™s performance, as he absolutely nails Geralt. Perhaps not coincidentally heā€™s an avowed fan of the games in particular and based his performance on those.

I played the Witcher 3 but youā€™re right Iā€™m not invested in the source material, so I didnā€™t know/care about any changes they decided to make. I bought the first few books but, as is typical with me, I havenā€™t got around to reading them yet.

For anyone interested in Japanese Anime, there are many brilliant Manga adaptations but the 2 that have really blown me away are Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and Shingeki No Kyojin (Attack on Titan).

On the latter, I have followed for close to a decade and its currently on the final season which is an absolute roller coster.

The story is brilliantly written and although the Manga is finished, my resolve has really been tested on keeping with the anime till the end and not looking at anything related to the material online to avoid spoilers.

Beginning to watch ā€œSon of a Critchā€, a lighthearted comedy. With the shite going on around the world thess days, this show is something that I need, badly!

Oh, Malcolm McDowell plays the grand dad. :joy:

Just saw a poster for ITVā€™s The Ipcress File . This is one of my all time favourite movies. I canā€™t believe they have made Harry Palmer look like John Shuttleworthā€¦

The Fear Index is an interesting watch, Harnett doing a very good job of portraying the delusional paranoid businessmenā€¦look forward to the last 2 episodes.

Probably already mentioned or at least the people who would want to watch are already aware of itā€¦but, we just watched Season 1 of Demon Slayer on Netflix and all enjoyed it.

High brow shit here, but I just finished the 4th season of Cobra Kai. Iā€™ve seen lots of people call it the best season, but I thought it was the weakest and by some distance. Every episode was shitty people being awful to each other over and over again. What is this? Some personal growthā€¦that was unexpectedā€¦ah fuck, they just threw it away and turned back into a garbage person at the next opportunity.

Itā€™s possibly the worst advertisement for the role of martial arts in promoting personal growth you can imagine. Except for Hawk.

Iā€™ve watched some of the ITV and BBC dramas recently in between the big Netflix blockbusters.

No Return - shite. Sheridan Smithā€™s Kathy is the most annoying female character since Skyler White.

Trigger Point - quite shite. Not as shite as No Return, but still pretty shite.

Screw - boring shite.

This is going to hurt - brilliant. The book was superb, this has a darker tone but is well worth a watch.

1/4 ainā€™t bad.

Knightfall.

Iā€™m a sucker for medieval stuff so this has been on my netflix queue for years. But deep down I knew it would be shit and so never chose it. Until this week. Guess what? Itā€™s totally shit. Only 12 more episodes to go though and then I can have the satisfaction of deleting it from my queue.
