The TV Thread redux

Interesting, I didnt know another one was in the works.

I never got around to watching the second series about the action in the Pacific. I think it just came at the wrong time where I couldnt get my head around watching American war stuff, but might give it a go eventually.

I tried watching the second season because I love the first one so much. I couldn’t get into the show, it just didn’t feel the same. I only managed to watch one or two episodes in the end.

I enjoyed The Pacific, in some ways more than Band of Brothers. But they’re both fantastic.

Bugger. I guess that means it is another show I’ve got to go back and watch

Ms. Marvel was a fun first episode. Avoiding twitter for the reactions as I’m sure the fanboys are having a field day with a non-white, muslim, female lead.

2nd series of The Flight Attendant has been bit shit, focuses too much on her personal/private life and her alcoholism and like 0.5% is on what is should be about

That’s a shame. First series was lowdown surprisingly good.

I mentioned recently that I’ve done a significant rewatch of Better Call Saul in preparation for the final season and I enjoyed it more second time around. It’s undeniably good tv, but I found it frequently frustrating first time around how slowly Jimmy’s descent into being Saul was, and how many false dawns there were for it. Every season there was some narrative you think explains his turning point and then it doesn’t happen. But I think this mostly an issue of expectations
of wanting the show to be about Saul not Jimmy.

On rewatching, with a better sense of the trajectory of the fall, you can just enjoy the show for what it is, and on that level it’s just really fantastic tv. I now think it’s actually better than Breaking Bad.

I agree. He’s a more interesting character than Walter White in my opinion, and Kim is better than any of the women in BB.
Both great shows though.

I haven’t watched better call saul or Breaking bad beyond the first episode of each. Does it matter which series I watch through first?

It’s the Star Wars conundrum. The spin off is a prequel. I don’t think it is essential to understand it to have watched Breaking Bad, but I think it might negatively impact Breaking Bad if you’ve already watched Saul, and to a degree already knowing the characters a bit makes their appearance and back story in Saul a bit more rewarding.

Thanks, that’s what I was wary of. I’ll watch BB first then.

Black Sails is a very good programme. Only four seasons, stunning visually - especially the ships, Toby Stephens gives a brilliant performance, rest of the cast strong mainly. Its a programme that gets better with each season and one that ends well. I recommend it.

I’m loving this season of Barry

Kenobi finally having some cool moments, unfortunately taken so long to get there that it feels like a case of too little too late.

Speaking of which, finally made my way through S3 of Barry. Exceptional TV but think it tipped this year from Dark Comedy to straight drama with some comedic relief. With that said, the scene where Barry explains to his girlfriend the things he could do to her former assistant is one of the funniest things Ive seen in years.
