The TV Thread redux

I’m halfway through S3, I love this show.

Noho Hank is probably my favourite character, only remember ever seeing the actor before as Zsasz in Gotham, but he’s great.

Akhmal is my favourite. Barely says anything but whenever he does it is worth it. His glee at the dinosaurs when riding the open top bus had me crying laughing

I couldn’t resist

This season made me hate the main character.

Loving Stranger Things and the 80’s Horror movie references. Freddy Krueger actor making an appearance.

And the denim jacket with DIO patch on the back and WASP badge takes back to my head banging days!!

43,600 km, 41 countries, 761 days. The spectacular journey of Dennis Kailing around the world on a bicycle.
2022 // Germany // 111 Min

Synopsis:
Home2Home tells the story of Dennis Kailing who travels 43,600 km (27,000 miles) through 41 countries on 6 continents to circumnavigate the planet in 761 days. He does it on a bicycle - on his first bike journey ever.
With the question “What makes you happy”, but without experience in bike traveling, the 24-year-old from Germany jumps into the deep end and simply sets off - always heading east. He’s traveling alone, but he’s rarely lonely: many encounters with interesting, crazy or “completely normal” people give him insights that ordinary tourists rarely experience. While others like a well-structured all inclusive tour, this bike tour is a journey into uncertainty. But in the uncertainty hides the biggest adventure - Dennis gradually becomes aware of this.
In addition to breathtaking landscapes and a good portion of humor, “Home2Home” also shows the unpleasant sides of a long bike trip: never-ending rain in the Andes of South America, illness between golden pagodas in Myanmar and loneliness in the endless expanses of the Australian Outback.
After 43,600 kilometers in 41 countries on 6 continents and the circumnavigation of our planet, Dennis is coming back from the west to the place from which he set out to the east two years earlier. In the end, he came a little closer to his question ’What makes you happy’ - mostly it’s just a very simple, tiny, but completely natural thing.

Success:
The German version (title: “Besser Welt als Nie”) was shown in more than 400 cinemas in 4 countries and attracted 72,000 viewers - even though there were 68% fewer visitors in all cinemas in Germany due to the pandemic. In addition, the film was broadcasted on national TV in Germany. The feedback: Just awesome! That’s why “Besser Welt als Nie” was evaluated as the best film within the Top 100 German cinema charts in 2020 in IMDb with a rating of 8.4/10. On Amazon it has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. The English version was individually produced with Dennis as the narrator – for the most authentic experience for the English-speaking audience. Enjoy the movie!

I never understood why he was a fan favourite anyway - dull, moody and stupid. Yes he is the “good” or moral one in the show but good and moral is pretty boring.

Even when he hanged a child near the end of the series it still didn’t resonate with me or add any depth and complexity to his character.

Boring. I think it all started to go wrong when he decided not to lie down with Ros.

I sort of agree. I get the interest in him as the plot points he was involved in where some of the more interesting ones, and ones where there were fan theories on how they would be resolved, but as a character he was not much more of a vehicle for those. His character didnt really add much to them.

We finally finished part 1 of this season of Stranger Things and loved it. The change to a more horror focused theme was well done, and I think made sense given they’re really not kids anymore. I read that in the first season they tried to lean on age appropriate tropes for the different groups of characters - ET/Goonies for the kids, Elm St for the teenagers, and Poltergeist for the adults. Now the kids are 6-7 years older than in the first season it makes sense to center them in an more Elm St style story. And with that said, great touch casting Englund.

Couple of thoughts, with spoilers

Summary
  • Chekhov’s gun says you dont introduce that orderly and give him some of the lines he had if he wasnt more than he appeared to be. I’m sure lots of people twigged he was actually #1, but by my count though they tied up 5 other plot points with his story, which is a pretty impressive piece of writing.

  • The one quibble is that in retrospect there was too much Hopper. His plot didnt really have a narrative pay off and so in a series with a new bad guy whose threat and story had to be explained it just seemed like fan service
