One of my close friend’s younger brother suddenly started doing this. We were like “Sam what’s wrong with your voice!” He was like “why nothing it’s always been like this”

Still one of the greatest shows ever made.

Seinfeld has nothing on Cheers.

The Rehearsal - 10/10

I think this show makes a lot more sense once you’ve got your bearings by watching Nathan For You - A Hell’s Kitchen style satire by a hopeless business consultant who provides businesses absolutely absurd marketing strategies but delivered in the most earnestly Canadian way imaginable. It’s awkward, it’s weird, but it’s funny as shit. It was genuinely one of the cleverest things on TV in the past decade, and really strange that it had such a small following.

The rehearsal is that taken up to 11. The premise is that Nathan has developed an approach of rehersing for important life events as a way of dealing with his social anxiety and the realization that people don’t particularly like him. This show is about using this approach to help people prepare for various important life events. Just like Nathan For You, the premise seems simple, but just describing i cannot come close to the absurd, often uncomfortable experience of watching it play out.

Breeders is a good laugh.

Can totally relate to Paul as the rageful father.

I just hope that Ron Perlman has a part in this, perhaps as a narrator or something?

Good point, mate! I think that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are behind the show and I loved the way they tackled Westworld - yes, that includes season 2 and I can’t really understand why people didn’t like it - meaning that they already have one big dystopian/post-apocalyptic TV show on a significant budget. They know how to pay respect to source material and include pop culture references (quality arrangement and execution of piano and orchestra renditions of Soundgarden, Metallica and Nine Inch Nails on Westworld if you ask me), so I think we’ll hear a few bits narrated by Perlman, I can feel it!

Even though I’m reasonably afraid I’ll jinx it, I can’t help but:

I personally have really enjoyed ‘Dark Winds’ on AMC.

At the huge risk of overhyping it, it’s like Twin Peaks, True Detective and a handful of X-Files episodes had a baby and raised it in Westworld.

It’s actually nowhere near as iconic as any of those shows and the elements of them it has, aren’t necessarily the ones you might think it has.

Barebones - it’s a buddy cop procedural, but at six 45 min episodes, if you’re looking for something new, it’s at least worth a look.

Exec producers include Robert Redford and G.R.R Martin (who should be spending his time on writing instead of this!!! even though I liked it)

I am 50% on the edge of my seat excited and 50% terrified they’re going to fuck it up (already announced they’re dealing with the challenges of a story that spans 4000 years by condensing it all down)

This series isn’t based on any of his published books, right? In that case we don’t have anything to compare it with. That could be the saving grace.

In my opinion Lotr works because when you break it down it’s ‘just’ the generic hero story - unassuming character with no/or unknown abilities caught up in an adventure, thrust into the worst situation imaginable but ultimately triumphing over evil. It’s the same story as Star Wars or Harry Potter etc. It’s accessible to all audiences because it’s a simple story which everyone easily understands. What sets the stories apart is the detail of the worlds they are set in and the characters they meet along the way. Tolkien was the ultimate world builder and turns the simplest story into an epic tale.

From the trailer it looks like Rings of Power is based on the Lotr movie prologue - the threat of Sauron develops, the races of men, elves and dwarves and also wizards unite to stop him, forging the rings of power but are ultimately deceived etc.

My concern that, like the Star Wars prequels or the Fantastic Beasts movies, while there may be some good characters and some cool moments, the story itself will never live up to those which are the reason people like these things in the first place and also we already know the fate of either specific individuals or at least the general outcome of the situation which takes away most of the tension and prevents emotional investment.

If you watch the trailer for Fotr it’s very clearly a story about Frodo, and he has a ring which needs to be destroyed so the bad guy doesn’t get it - but with a load of other cool shit and various dangers along the way which will try to stop him.

But from the latest RoP trailer we can’t tell who the main character is (if there even is one) perhaps it’s Galadriel but I don’t think they actually mention her name. If you aren’t familiar with the mythology, it also isn’t really clear what the story is.

As I say all these are just ‘concerns’ and the final product might be awesome and I hope that is case.
