I finished watching channel 4ās Itās A Sin.
What a marvellous production, excellent witty script and fantastic acting and music is from my era. I can resonate with that time because there were so many misconceptions about AIDS.
The storyline is fantastic and you feel really sad and inspired by the characters and you are rooting for them. I was bawling my eyes out after episode 3, by the end was on the 2nd box of Kleenex.
A riveting watch and highly recommended. We need more Jillās in this world.
just learned this week, one of my favourite tv shows has been cancelled. Kimās Convenience is a Canadian sitcom following the lives of a Korean family living in Toronto I think Season 5 aired in January (usually comes to Netflix in the UK in April) but one of the actors tweeted a day or two that they were expecting to start filming season 6 shortly but instead got told it was ending.
Iāll give it a go if itās on Netflix France. I am reduced to watching Broocklyn 99 to pass the time now so need something new and 5 seasons of something else will help.
It started well but wasnāt that enjoyable in the later seasons (Iām still watching). Same with Kimās Convenience, was really interesting and had a different vibe in the beginning.
Would you recommend it? I started but couldnāt go beyond few episodes.
Thatās understandable. The first season is a story about shitty people acting horribly. Itās still genuinely funny, but a lot of people have some difficulty getting into it because of that fundamental premise. However, it turns into one of the best shows ever of its genre because of the growth of the characters. Itās difficult to see it happening from the first few episodes, but by the middle of the run itās not just funny, but itās genuinely heart warming. There are several scenes that people will rewatch simply for the purpose of lifting their spirits when they feel down.
I think there are levels it works on even beyond that which helped make it such a favourite, but I dont think the issues of representation and authenticity need to be examined to appreciate how wonderful a show it became by as early as the second season.
I am getting a bit tired of The Blacklist. I think that they should have ended the series a couple of seasons ago. It felt like we are chasing ghost for the main storyline, if there ever was one.
Perhaps that is why I am turning towards British, Korean or Mainland Chinese series. They rarely have multiple seasons, and if they do, the series per season tends to be reasonably short.
Nevertheless, there were some really great North American series, e.g. āDead Like Meā, āUnited States of Taraā to name just a fewā¦but their demises were quality of writings declined after the 2nd season.
Schittās Creek isnāt on Netflix France so itās Kimās Convenience next after it took me a whole episode to realise Iāve already watched Altered Carbon before (what wonders having a sieve for a memory can throw up). Thatās because my son kept going on about Altered Carbon and I couldnāt remember if I had watched it, not liked it, ā¦ whatever (must have watched it in French with one of my daughters boyfriends (anyway thatās my excuse)).
If Kimās thingy isnāt available Iāll get back to rewatching all my films one by one over again. Watched all the TRansformers recently excellent stuff and my daughter commented ānot againā just another thing I drove her mad with then.
