The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

The bastards…

They always do

1-1… The crowd was 55,500 in attendance

The other thing I distinctly remember from the game… It looked as though Bobby Charlton had dipped his both legs into a sack of flour before running onto the pitch - The whitest, hairless legs I have ever seen in my entire life :0)

Just found this small footage:

Nice one. According to that, Best didn’t even touch the ball.
What a swizz!

This thread weaves more than DT.

VVD is the best centre back i have seen (watching consistently ) access pre early 90s was limited to highlight shows and world cup tournements, so i cant properly judge the Hansens and Lawrensons

Maldini from what i saw opperated as a better fullback, hes out for me…

Cannavaro probably peaked higher around that 2006 world cup era, but didnt peak for as long in my mind…

Utd lads might argue for Vidic or some such…Chelsea fro Terry and Citeh for Kompany, but to me they werent as transformative as Virgil, nor as consistently dominant…they could have off days and it wouldnt show up on the scoreboard, they had more protection from midfield and less adventurous fullbacks to cover

if i look back nostagically, Baresi was freakishly brilliant, but i dont have the sample size

so yeah, for all of the above, its Virgil for me in the last 30 years…

but i can understand the cries of indignation from opposition clubs

i dont think these kind of debates can be held in good faith anymore in 2024…just too much tribal Bantz

in summary, i heard a stat the otherday, (TBC by someone who can be arsed fact checking, but does sound cool );

walks by man on the moon; 12
dribbles by man past VVD; 8

The only way the “bantz” is eliminated in the discussion is to confine the choice to a player outside your own club.

And hope for honesty.
So last 30 years?

Liverpool supporters…
Terry?
Ferdinand?
Cannavaro?
Kompany?
Adams?
McGrath?

Other clubs…
VVD

Transfer rumours are fun.

Yeah, he counts two. World’s best keeper and centre back

That one put to bed for a few years at least then you’d think.

Once we signed Chiesa, this was dead.

Maybe there’s a release clause included…

I’m still not sure what they saw in him.

As someone once mentioned on here… a Clare Balding lookalike most probably :0)

Diaz has been brilliant. The one slight criticism about end product is being answered resoundingly. Sign him up on a new deal asap! Gakpo and Chiesa are solid players too. Mo has been the best, and when it is time for him to move on, whether next summer or beyond, we will sign a better wide forward than Anthony Gordon.

I saw the sense in an opportunistic deal if Gomez was going the other way, but it has all moved on from that. And we look quite fine for it.

Definitely a solid list of CBs who played in the Premier League + Cannavaro.

Cannavaro is one of the greatest, I would say on the world football stage, he beats everyone on that list (excluding VVD). I remember seeing this small guy but so dominant at CB. He has won pretty much everything, World Cup, La Liga, Serie A (which I think was taken away later on because of Juve punishment) and also the Ballon.

Yeah, I agree. I wasn’t discrediting Cannavaro - just the PL-centric list.

Looks like we’re raiding Germany…

Liverpool are planning to revamp their attacking options in 2025 and eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Germany winger Karim Adeyemi, 22. (Teamtalk)

Liverpool are interested in Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl, 22, who has represented Germany at under-21 level. (Bild)

Let’s just hope we take Stan Boardman with us.

Fuck him. Glad he’s not joining Liverpool.
