The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Love how it’s always Mo who leaves…

Out of the 3 he is the hardest to replace even though he is getting on, the way he plays I feel he has many more years in his legs.

That is not saying that Trent and Mo won’t be missed as they are special players.

Well, at least they’ve learned the lesson with Van Dijk, Salah and especially Trent.

The developments are welcome although, at the same time, will not distract from the continued impasse with Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold. There has been contact between the club and the representatives of all three players, but talks have not found common ground.

Joyce is not painting a nice picture of the other three contract extensions, though…

I’m guessing it’s still a case of not wanting to stretch too far for Alexander-Arnold considering how young he still is and that we probably would still have a couple more of these negotiations with him further down the road if we’re successful now, while for the other two, their age is a concern, and so will be reflected in the contract offers.

I think it’s simply the case that as much as they might want to stay, they also want a certain amount of money. The club might want them to stay and value them, but also have a strict budget that might not fit their demands.

Was looking for info on Quansah’s contract at the end of last season, but nothing was available. Recently, I’ve found that his current deal is up to 2027. So probably getting an improved deal now following his progress in the last year.

And Konate is also good news. I don’t want him without quality competition and hope he gets rid of the niggles (so he’s finally able to play 40-50+ games a season), but he’s certainly good enough to be at Liverpool. Will probably sign a contract that will tie him here until he’s about 29-30.

I don’t usually lose my patience that easily but this Hughes chap is starting to grate on my nut sacks.

Trent I’m not too fussed about if we can get 50m in Jan, Virg and Mo simply have to be renewed otherwise we’re gonna be in serious doo doo, they are the 2 most important players we have. We are in rude awakening if we think we can replace both and maintain our position…we could see a quicker collapse than we did in 09.

First, that sounds painful.

Second, TAA should be the priority because he’s got at least 5 more years at the top level. The other two, while legends, are on the back end of their career.

Obviously, the impasse is not good news. Losing all three for nothing is inconceivable.

Can you imagine going into a summer needing at least a starting level centre back, a replacement for the biggest star we’ve had since Gerrard and probably another right back. Then also a distinct possibility we’ll also need another DM, a back up keeper if Kelleher pushes to move and a centre back if Gomez does similar. And then there’s the question mark hanging over Nunez.

Personally I don’t see how the club can afford not to get deals sorted for at least two of these guys.

Not to disagree with your wider point, but surely with Marmadashvilli on loan for a year, he comes in next season and replaces Kelleher?

I see VVD being done.

Salah will probably go, Trent I’ve made my personal view elsewhere.

As much as I’d hate to see Mo or Trent leave, Virg would be the biggest loss. He’s incredible and will leave a massive hole. Even a single game without him is a worrying prospect, never mind a season.

I know we’ll have to deal with this at some point but I hope he stays another 2-3 years then joins the coaching staff and helps Konate, Quansah and others progress

Maybe. But I’d have thought he’d be expecting to be more than a number two until Alisson is ready to move on.

Many scenarios are still possible in the GK department, who knows what happens next summer. I don’t think the club themselves know already. Like, we sell Kelleher with a year left on his deal, Mama comes in and backups Alisson until he’s “done” (if he also wants to stay for another few years, contract up to 2027). It’s not as simple as that. And up for discussion if that’s what’s best for Mama at that point, or maybe to continue playing regularly on loan somewhere for another season (maybe in Valencia, maybe in the PL). We assess Jaros and decide whether we have enough. We can always look if there’s an experienced free/cheap short term option.

If Trent goes on a free , which I’m sure he will , use the money saved on his wages to give Virgil whatever he wants. He’s by far our most important player.

I can’t understand why they haven’t done this already. He’s club captain, clearly helping managing the coach transition, and still the best CB in the world. Surely the wage structure can go out the window and all the squad would understand

I haven’t been reading the rumours, Is it wage related? We know the club have in previous years been reluctant to sign players over 30 with contracts that span multiple years

Well I’d make the same arguments if that’s the reason

It would be sheer madness to let any of the 3 players leave, Virgil and Mo have already said they want to stay, the club never invested in the squad in the summer and now we still not giving contracts to our best players.

Surely it depends on their demands? If any of them is being offered a multi year deal on significantly improved terms, the club has to have a hard think (but for maybe Trent given his age).

Say VVD and Mo are offered £500kpw elsewhere, on three year deals, the club would have to break the current top wage by £200kpw. That for 3 years is £78m per player. It would also naturally follow suit that those players contracted to 2026 would start looking at the disparity and then it becomes problematic when its time for their renewals.

It’s important we try to retain all three, but there are points at which we might need to accept that we have to let one or more go. Its what happened to Gini, whereby the offer from elsewhere was bigger/longer and that stabilty/offer was more appealing to him.
