Being linked to Branthwaite again, Mail reckons a January move could be on the cards.

Genuinely would love him to come to us.

I really rate him and itā€™s not a surprise they won in his first game back. Also Everton wouldnā€™t have to knock down Goodison if he came, it would just fall apart under the mass of fury.

Branthwaite, Cresswell, Harwood-Bellis, Phillips - Iā€™d have any of them. Shame we just watched Cresswell go to Toulouse for a pittance.

Who is Phillips?

Ashley Phillips. Was at Blackburn, signed for Spurs last season.

No doubting that Everton improved with Branthwaite in.

But they were in strong positions in the matches they ended up choking as well (Bournemouth/Villa)

Yeah and they lost them by conceding 3 goals.

They didnā€™t the last game, I think he has proved he is decent.

I like him. Think heā€™s a good player.

Itā€™s just that Everton didnā€™t play badly for the majority of those two games. They lost by being Everton. Donā€™t think they had tarkowski for those matches too.

They lost because they couldnā€™t defend for toffee.

Going top dollar for Brainthwaite doesnā€™t seem like much sense to me at the moment.

For the future, maybe. But then you have to calculate how much sense does it make.

Unless Virgil is leaving next summer.

Branthwaite doesnā€™t cover at LB, so heā€™d be basically Virgilā€™s backup forā€¦ a little while.

The old topic whether weā€™d potentially move Virgil to RCB, if a ā€œBranthwaiteā€ would push out a ā€œKonateā€ out of our XIā€¦ until I see it, I wonā€™t believe it.

I often thought we ignored the (weaker) RCB spot a bit too much. Especially with Trentā€™s zone being close, that whole side of our team being specific and needing certain protection.

Nothing against Branthwaite though, I like the player.

Well, this comes as no surprise.

Liverpool have identified Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi as a potential successor to Salah, and are ready to make a Ā£41m bid for the 22-year-old German. (Bild - in German)

My main thought when seeing this link is that he hasnā€™t really developed at Dortmund into the player he was touted to be and the handful of times Ive been able to watch Dortmund hoping to to see how heā€™s getting on, he isnt playing. But then my initial reaction of ā€œmehā€ is significantly mitigated by my surprise he is still only 22

Adeyemi was always one to watch. He can play right across the front line, but as a left footer could easily play on the right wing for us, cutting inside. He has pace to burn and could go on the outside too.

Life after Mo, whether that comes sooner (more likely Iā€™d say) or later, is going to need some adjustment. Mo has been such a unique player, and the sheer output from the wing that he has given us has rewritten the rule book. Whoever we sign will likely not have the same number of goals and assists.

With that said, we have form for making canny signings - players who have been good, and are about to explode to getting into the conversation for maybe being world class.

Adeyemi is not that, not yet, but our stattos will be running the rule over him to see if the signs are there that he could become that sort of player. He is 22 and turns 23 in January, I think I saw. Perfect age. He has always been laden with attacking threat, but this season - early days I know - his numbers are starting to surge too, and he has 5 goals and 5 assists in 8 games.

Fun to debate these rumours but most of them seem to working on the presumption that Mo and Virg are leaving next summer. I canā€™t for the life of me see a scenario where we leave ourselves needing to replace those two and Trent all in one summer but until contracts are signed thatā€™s very much the current reality.

Makes links with the likes of Tchouameni or revisiting a deal for Zubimendi seem pretty fanciful. Bradley might mitigate some the need at RB but the other two youā€™d be looking for players to come and make an instant impact and they wonā€™t come cheap.

That injury to Carvajal only adds fuel to the Trent to Madrid fire. We might even see them coming sniffing in January if things were looking like going that way in the summer anyway.

Weā€™d be mad to let Virgil go. Heā€™s been imperious this season and has at least two more seasons in him.
Iā€™d like us to keep Mo too, heā€™s proved his worth again recently, but he needs to be competing against a top class alternative (Chiesa?).

Itā€™s so difficult to know whatā€™s what with the uncertainty over the three expiring contracts.

My best guess, and we are all just guessing until we know, is that Virg will sign a 2 year extension, Mo will leave for PSG, and Trent is a toss up. With Real Madrid sniffing around for a January deal, due to an injury to Carvajal, we will know soon enough.

Theyā€™d need to pay us a shedload to let him leave in January - no way they would do that if they could get him for free in July. I suspect TAA is seen as attractive as a ā€˜free hitā€™ option - if he isnā€™t Jude Mark 2 Real will flog him after one season for a massive profit. Really donā€™t want that virus to get him
