The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

I assume you mean Calafiori. Or is it calamari?

As for a potential replacement for Virg, there have been rumours linking us with Branthwaite, haven’t there? He will be looking for a new club after all. Playing in the Championship won’t help his England prospects.

Seems very unlikely.

Kerkez and Zubimendi in January, yes please. Gives us fresh legs and depth for the second half of the season and longer term.

Then in the summer we can see what’s what with outgoing. We might need Bade, Frimpong and David, something like that.

I don’t want wholesale change, and it won’t be, but I do think there will be a bit of churn as Slot puts his stamp on the squad.

We have CB that can play LB, remember him, GOMEZ

Gomez can cover lb in an emergency. We need a proper one.

Calamari signed for Arsenal

I realise that, but why did we let that happen?

You do know that Bastoni would be a great CB for us. Ticks about everything we want in a left sided CB.

Because he is Lb, not CB. And we already have two LB. 40m for someone not sure better than two LB we have, maybe 5th choice CB and injures half season? No thank.

And event he actually what we need, we are not always get what we want.

Gomez fancies himself as a CB and the way he’s played under Slot as a CB. He should be treated as a CB.

Yes , when the need occurs , he can come in as a RB or a LB to see off matches.

Also Slot seems to be wanting to play Quansah as a RB to see off games.

I think he’s talking about Califiori, who is a cb/lb.

From Wikipedia:

A left-footed defender, Calafiori started out playing as a left-back or left-sided wing-back before being shifted to a centre-back role during his spell at Bologna, under manager Thiago Motta, due to his ability to start attacking plays from the back with his passing range, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A during the 2023–24 season.Tactically, he is capable of playing in a back three or a back four, and is known for his anticipation, as well as his aggressive and physical style when putting pressure on opponents. A quick and powerful player, he has been mainly praised for his technique and his shooting prowess from distance, while also being known for his ball-carrying ability. His height also makes him effective in aerial duels. As a full-back, he was capable of getting forward to provide crosses from the touchline, or assisting his team defensively with his quick recoveries.

Considered to be one of the most promising Italian talents of his generation, The Guardan’s 2019 Next Generation list of the 60 best young talents in world football, before being named as one of UEFA’s “50 for the future” in 2021.

Calafiori is widely regarded as ‘The New Maldini’ due his similarity in terms of nationality, position and style of play with Italian legend Paolo Maldini.

No disrespect to Tsimikas, but he’d be an upgrade.

He’s played Quansah there once, for about ten minutes.

I doubt we will be back in for Zubimendi considering how well Gravenberch is shaping up there.

We’ve got Bajcetic , Morton as backups and depending on how they shape up this season, we might not need any further DM even if Endo is shipped. Plus Macallister / Jones help out defensively and form the pivot anyway.

A CB and a LB along with hopefully a backup to Salah.

Sure. But he could have pushed Gomez to RB and then played Quansah as a CB. The fact that he chose not to probably means he sees some minutes for Quansah as a RB.

It’s probably a good thing too. Loads of defenders do time as right back/left back before going to become mainly centerbacks

Califiori. Sure he would be someone who could see good game time for us. But look at him after his move to Arsenal. He’s been injured quite a bit too.

Bajcetic may make it, Morton possibly. Zubimendi is a full Spain international and coveted by teams across Europe and who we were willing to spend a lot of money on.

We need not be looking at someone who’s an improvement over Tsimikas. We should be looking at someone who’s a replacement for Robbo.

Again no disrespect to Tsimikas , but someone who’s 20-22 years and can give 8 years or so of football for Liverpool needs to be the priority.

Why would he join us now only to be a back up to Grav?

I think that ship has sailed. He had his chance and he refused us. Sure other teams may grab him up but we don’t hoard players like they do.

I see rumours that we might go for a cut price deal for Tchouameni if there’s any movement for Trent in Jan from RM.

Maybe the club still figure that we need Tchouameni.

Remember that the initial plan of Klopp was to get Tchouameni , Bellingham and Gravenberch. We got Grav much later. Who’s to say that we won’t get Tchouameni if he’s not happy at Madrid.
