Quite possible too.
Because we opted for another unfit/injury-prone Italian.
Letâs see how he uses Quansah going forward. If he does see him as a hybrid RCB/RB. Quansah wonât offer too much offensively but he can provide what Gomez provides at RB too.
Havenât had too much of a look at Bajcetic in Salzburg except some minutes of a CL match where he played in DM. Is he playing mainly as a DM or is he being tried out as a CB too
But itâs worth nothing that Bajcetic played at CB too in the earlier bit of his career. Who knows whether thereâs a role for him as a CB ? Would still need to gain some muscle though. Heâs 6â1 which isnât a bad height even if not Konate/VVD/Gomez level.
If this is to be taken at face value.
The age factor seems to be a major thing for Liverpool. Especially if we count a 26 year player as not important.
The other takeaway seems to be that we are not looking at too many of Slotâs exes.
Hancko said: âI was in contact with the coach, but he immediately told me that it was not possible. Liverpool have a certain transfer philosophy. Age was one issue, the other was price. Both factors were negative for me.â
Quite the leap regarding Quansah, given he had ten minutes at right back.
In that time he had at least one very positive forward run, and kept Doku relatively quiet.
Gomez was comfortable at CB, so there was no sense in disrupting two defensive positions. TAA looked spent and Slot trusted Quansah to play in the role.
It was ten minutes, so there are few, if any conclusions we can draw.
Letâs just wait and see. It wouldnât surprise me either way. But there have been plenty of CBs whoâve made it after doing their times as a RB or a LB
If Quansah wasnât part of the overall plan he wouldnât have got a new contract.
You are right on lets wait and see.
Because he is good enough
Have you seen the amount of work our full backs do under Slot they are forever underlapping and overlapping, Calafiori couldnât do what Robbo or Tsimi do, and Tsimi has been excellent this season
At the moment neither Morton or Stefan are at the level of Zubi and he would give Grav and rest now and then
Nat Phillips got one or two new contracts (bloody hell, he will be 28 when he leaves us on a free, unless thereâs another hidden clause) and he was never really part of a plan. More to be someone between loans and a 5th senior CB in case of emergency and also to protect his value so we can get the famous ÂŁ20m (then lowered it to ÂŁ10m) we were hoping to get, in the end weâll get nothing.
Of course, Quansahâs case is nowhere near Natâs. Heâs a young homegrown CB with potential who appeared last season and showed he can perform at this level. Regardless what we think of his level right now or of his long term ceiling, a new proper/senior contract was logical, standard business. The rest is up to him, first be a bit patient, then battle against other CBâs now and in the future and see how far he goes with us.
Be interesting to see what happens in January.
Sadly the last thing we should be doing is cut price dealing Trent considering what happened to Bradley.
You saved yourself in the second paragraph.
Comparing him to Nat Phillips is a bit skewedâŚ
I think he has already shown more.
If his first game under Slot hadnât ended up with a half time substitution, we wouldnât be questioning him at all.
I still think the contract is significantly more than standard business
Point is, even if Quansah wasnât really part of our plan, he wouldâve been offered a new contract. Even Kevin Stewart got a new contract after a few solid to good performances. We donât have to use Quansahâs new contract as the main clue why the club may think heâs our next defensive stalwart or whatever. Iâve read that a few times lately. His performances last season considering his age and being homegrown is more than enough for us to continue having him under contract for the next couple of years. The rest is up for debate and weâll see with time. Hopefully has a long and successful time together with the club.
I donât think that Liverpool, at least during the last 20-25 years, have sold a player whose contract was running down during January window. Even Owen was sold in the summer window.
Iâm not a betting man but if I was, Iâd bet everything I have on him not leaving this January. If heâs playing, heâs worth to the team more than any money they can get for him, especially if they are still in a good position to fight for the title.
I do hope that the powers that be at the club will strengthen in January if the team are in a good position in PL and CL. Difficult window and all that but worldâs best centre back and two current first XI forwards were signed during that window.
What we actually need and what FSG allow us to actually get are very different animals. Usually.
That lad Quansah has played some positions this morningâŚ
From CB to FB⌠Now to an Attacking Midfielder :0)
What the fans think we need and what we actually need are also two different animals.
Liverpool have not given up their hopes of signing Zubimendi but have lined up alternatives. One of the names that has been identified is Samuele Ricci.
Club scouts have been very impressed by his numbers and see him as an ideal alternative option.
