Joyce teasing us with a bit of Jorrel Hato chat with Tsimikas ā€œnot viewed as a long term solution.ā€

Also seems to expect Nunez to move on.

Negotiations containing with the three out of contract lads too. Suggests nothing final or concrete decided either way just yet.

Hardly ground breaking stuff but clearly left back looks to be a priority area this summer.

Joyce:

ā€œIbrahima KonatĆ© is yet to sign the new terms offered to him and he will soon be into the final year of his contract, with whispers growing about interest in the France centre back from Paris Saint-Germain and possibly Real Madrid.ā€

ā€œSuccession planning is required at left back given Andrew Robertson turns 31 next month and Kostas Tsimikas is not a long-term solution. Liverpool have been studying options such as Bournemouthā€™s Milos Kerkez and Ajaxā€™s Jorrel Hato among others.ā€

ā€œDarwin NĆŗƱez, overlooked entirely at the Etihad, looks likely to leave in the summer with his progress not having matched expectations so forward reinforcements will presumably arrive, while Harvey Elliott must reflect on whether he will ever be granted the playing time he craves. Chatter about Luis DĆaz, who has two years left on his deal, moving on is forever seemingly in the background. Wataru Endoā€™s attitude was hailed as an example to everyone by Slot but will he be happy to continue in a bit-part role?ā€

He also name-checked Kerkez in that article, so thereā€™s that as well. I think itā€™s an open secret that Nunez will leave and that a left back will be signed but I didnā€™t like how dark he sounded on the matter of new contracts, especially Konateā€™s.

Only partially related to the above two posts, but I still donā€™t understand why people are so convinced that these journalists actually know something relevant.

Joyce usually sounds more concrete this all seems a little perhaps and who knows type stuff.

I think the only thing you can probably say seems certain is left back.

That more sounds like Joyce just setting the scene for the challenge ahead rather than trying to give a real assessment of our prospects.

Yeah thatā€™s what prompted my reply.

Like no shit Tsimikas is not our long-term left back solution. Heā€™s 29 this year.

I love it when we can find solutions internally, but unless Iā€™m much mistaken we donā€™t have anyone coming up in the pipeline who might be good enough. Beck, Chambers, and Scanlon, no matter how good their quality might be or not canā€™t seem to stay fit anyway.

It was more the definitive mention of Hato that caught my attention. Not sure Iā€™ve seen much in the way of links to him beyond the 2+2 maths people were doing when he showed up at Anfield a few weeks back.

Joyce isnā€™t usually one to name drop without some solid info behind it.

rumor now has it that Real Madrid have agreed terms with TAA to a 4 year deal that will pay him 348k per week.

Donā€™t know why Liverpool wonā€™t pay TAA 350k per week. That seems appropriate for such an important player who was slated to be our future captain. But hey who can pretend to understand FSG?

Finding a premium right back is going to be difficult. Is anyone really convinced that Connor Bradley is ready to start in that position for us or do we need to go into the market for a replacement?

Sign on fee. He will be a free agent. Something like Ā£15m for his signature and before he kicked a ball.

Also, ā€œrumor now has itā€ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in there.

Have a look at Real Madridā€™s revenue, then have a look at ours. They earned about Ā£1bn last year, we earned around Ā£600m.

Our wage bill is already about Ā£360m or 60% of turnover. Paying Trent Ā£350k a week would equate to Ā£18.2m a year or 5% of the current wage bill for the clubā€¦

You can offer him whichever amount, but if he wants to go to Realā€¦ thatā€™s all there is to understand.

I hope he is smart enough to insist on a return to liverpool without a transfer fee clause if/when it all goes pear shaped. We wonā€™t be paying them to buy him back and he only has to look at lil mickey owen to know what can happen

It crossed my mind a few times, yeah. Weā€™ll see if there is some sort of clause for a potential return one day. But no doubt there would be a fee involved, or after a certain time, etc. Conditions.

Iā€™m pretty sure that his reason for wanting to go to RM is not simply to get more money. Itā€™s about status and playing for the biggest club in the world.
