Probably means he has a €60m release clause/valuation.
I think people use “never heard of him” a bit flippantly at times in terms of rumours like this, but I have honestly never heard of that kid
Clearly TIA haven’t either as they couldn’t even rustle up a picture of him to go with the article.
Did like the mention Fofana at Lyon in the other news bit. Sounds more like his agent making kissy faces at us than anything else but the kid looks electric. Strong Bradley Barcola vibes and not just because of the Lyon connection. Very similar performance data when you look at their age 19 seasons.
If we happen to be shopping for a LW this summer and are willing to go with someone with a smaller body of work then he’d be on my list. Especially if Lyon are in need of cash like they permanently seem to be these days.
Why does Sky Sports Switzerland sound even more dodgy than Football Insider?
Tenuous link to Braithwaite as well.
According to that same source, Frimpong is Slot’s preferred replacement:
"Arne Slot has never changed his mind: replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold with Jérémie Frimpong remains one of his main objectives for the next transfer window.
In direct contact with the player, the Dutch coach wants to give an even more offensive touch to the Reds’ right wing. He is trying to convince the Bayer Leverkusen full-back with a personal approach:
- First telephone exchange with his representatives
- Regular discussions by message
- Possibility of a physical meeting in the coming weeks
The former Feyenoord coach is charmed by the player, who has 12 caps and scored one goal for the Oranje, and wants to prove to him that Liverpool remains the most attractive club for a player of his profile. While contacts already exist between Liverpool and Frimpong’s entourage, the Reds have not yet submitted an official offer to Leverkusen. As we know, Liverpool is preparing a massive transfer window, with both a reduction in staff and targeted recruitment, but the American owners will not spend without reason. Valued at €50 million, our sources confirm that Liverpool could soon make an initial offer in this range before adjusting their proposal according to Bayer’s demands.
Liverpool’s director of football, Michael Edwards, has a good relationship with Bayer 04’s management. He will have to work within the budget set by FSG, but he remains convinced that Liverpool have a real chance in this case. It remains to be seen whether Jérémie Frimpong, who is interested in the Reds’ project, will definitively rule out other contenders to become the new darling of Anfield."
I read a profile on Larsson after our link to him yesterday, he was described as having the defensive solidity and a similar playing style to Rodri, with a KdB-like passing range.
Needless to say, despite having never seen a minute of him in action, I am fully on board lol
Man Utd prepared to let Rashford and Casemiro leave!
Yeah, even though Frimpong as a potential TAA replacement sounds plausible, the claim that Slot is supposedly trying to convince him to swap Bayer Leverkusen for Liverpool makes this story fanciful at the very least.
Unless there are other big teams vying for his signature.
Rashford and Casemiro not prepared to give up their pay packages.
Listen lads. We’ve been considering it a lot, and after much deliberation and heartbreak, we’ve decided you can go. You don’t have to honour those absurd contracts we gave you. I know, I know. No need to say thank you. It’s totally fine. We get our thanks by knowing we’ve done the right thing by our players. Good luck in your careers, boys. We hope you always have fond memories of Manchester United Football Club.
I do expect that it is probably fair that every prospective Liverpool incoming player will need convincing to some degree, especially at this time of year. There are so many issues or matters a player is likely needing convincing on.
In Frimpong’s case, he will probably need to see where things are with Trent, what is happening with key players like Mo and Virgil - them staying, or their replacements (basically the shape of the squad, and plans). Frimpong is at Leverkusen, where he would get another year of CL football. He might be keen to want to challenge for the Bundesliga next season and wants to see what the clubs plans are - is Alonso likely off, or will he stay. All that before you add other clubs sniffing about and the thing all fans end up talking about - wages…
Jurgen had Blackpool… I reckon Arne will take his prospective signings to Ramsgate.
It’s home to the biggest Spoons in the world.
Adding it to the bucket list love a bit of culture
Another Dutch player, we might as well change our colours to oranje.
Gotta make sure no one needs the loo. Might never see them again
You’d have thought by now that these rumours mongers would have twigged that it’s not really managers driving recruitment targets at big clubs anymore and even less so at Liverpool than most other clubs.
No doubt Slot has an input but he’s not picking who we go for anymore than Edwards is doing the negotiating.
But if we have collectively decided he is our favourite, Slot is going to be a more important player in selling to move to the player than Hughes will be, which is what this report appears to be claiming is the phase of the process we have reached.
Just watch now when Frimpong turns out to be our backup/competition RB and our backup RW.
Surely he is, in regards to the position that needs strengthening.
Also, from what I have heard in the past is that the scouts, number crunchers etc. produce a list of players and then Arne would sit down with them and Hughes to decide who is best suited?
You would think that any potential player would want to meet the coach before making any decisions, to discuss how he sees his role in the team.
