Yeah I won’t lie, the first time someone raised the whole “he wasn’t feeling himself” thing (I think it was @RedWhippet) the first thing my mind went to was mental health issues.
Guy needs some time away to reset. It can’t be healthy for him either, if his partner and child are away.
I disagree on that. It’s not the effort that’s dropped, it’s his positioning. You see it pretty much with no matter who plays centre-forward I think. It’s not so much the aggression we’ve come to see but a more disciplined positioning.
Yeah I’ve read today that (other than obviously Trent) they’ve decided going for a LB and a midfielder (didn’t replace Kroos as the main midfield controller, big loss). So it sort of explains why they’re not pursuing Huijsen (or Konate?), but let’s see if they get involved for Kerkez.
Seems like the journos have been briefed about a big summer. Lewis Steele and Chris Bascombe both posted articles about a busy summer with a lot of finds available.
Although ironically one of them goes on to say Kerkez might be too expensive.
Kerkez was signed for £15.5 million by Hughes during his spell at Bournemouth, his stellar form on the south coast validating the sporting director’s eye for talent. An issue with Hungarian international Kerkez is his current valuation, with Liverpool reluctant to overpay for a left-back as they are looking for a player to share the workload with Scotland captain Andy Robertson, not necessarily relegate him to back-up status.
Also:
As well as Núñez, fringe players such as Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas will be available. There are also likely to be offers for Scotland winger Ben Doak, who is back on Merseyside recovering from injury after a successful loan spell at Middlesbrough.
