I don’t think the club see them as the same transfer targets.
Rodrygo would be to replace Diaz. A starter who can contribute a lot (Rodrygo and Diaz currently probably at similar levels of ability, but Diaz at his peak and Rodrygo with room to develop)
Fofana would be a Chiesa replacement.
If Diaz goes, I don’t think we go after Fofana. Likewise if Chiesa goes I don’t think we go after Rodrygo. One is a target as a starter, and the other is a target as a backup/squad player.
I don’t think we want to keep Diaz against his wishes and risk him unsettling the dressing room. If he’s decided he wants to move on then we should cash in. 60+ million quid would be a great return for him, if we can also get 50 or so for Nunez, then that’ll be great business.
Bring in Rodrygo and that gives us a fantastic like-for-like replacement and we maintain our top-drawer forward line.
There is no indication hes unsettling the rest of the team if there was he wouldn’t have gone to Hong Kong so im not sure why people keep mentioning it.
What the fuck are you on about? I was making the speculation. It’s not bollocks that he wants away. It’s been reported on by reliable journos including Ornstein. If a player wants to leave the club and we won’t let him go, then it stands to reason that the player would be unhappy, and then it also stands to reason that said unhappy player could end up unsettling the locker room.
“Called out for the bollocks” is hilarious. Have a day off mate.
This by Andy Hunter includes some guesstimates for the outgoings
Liverpool maintain Díaz is not for sale and that their €100m (£86.8m) valuation of the Colombia international is for accounting purposes rather than an asking price. That may be so but if that valuation is met and Díaz departs, and Liverpool get what they want for Darwin Núñez (£55m), Harvey Elliott (£40m-plus), Chiesa (£10m) and Tyler Morton (£15m), the club could yet recoup more than £200m before the transfer window closes on 1 September. A well-run champion does not ease up.
Well yeah, but it’s coming from reliable sources that the player himself has said he wants to leave and join Bayern. I’m sure it is about money, he’s getting to the age where he has one big contract left in his career, and he’s making significantly less than the likes of Salah, Wirtz, etc.
I like Diaz a lot as a player and think he’s been really good for us, but if a player wants to go and you don’t want to offer them new terms, then I don’t see the point in keeping them around. If Bayern come in with a 65M offer I reckon we let him go and look for a replacement.
If. They are still 20m short of our valuation we don’t let him leave to improve another side just because, no charity.
They can stump up the cash or they can get ducked and he can sulk all he wants he after all signed that contract and his father has been trying to tout him to Barca since he did.
Yup we have fallow years. This of course is a rather large outlay for us but if we can recoup even just from Morton, Elliott, Nunez and perhaps a youngster or two that’s going be more than 130m
If Diaz goes to Bayern. Rodrygo would make a lot of sense as a replacement for us. Supposedly we are in talks with his camp now to see if an agreement can be reached. No talks reported between the clubs yet.
Really interesting stuff if it happens. A front 4 of Rodrygo, Ekitikie, Wirtz, Salah would be absolutely devastating.
I’m pretty sure Diaz is going to Bayern if he leaves. He’s unlikely to haunt us. As for Rodrygo he would make a good replacement if the player wants to join Liverpool. If he joins another PL club… have there even been any links? Chelsea already dumped a big wad of cash on Madueke, and he’s not nearly in Rodrygo’s zip code of class and ability.
