The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Maybe a parallel can be drawn between his and Saliba’s progress. Both acquired by big clubs at a young age, both sent out on loan to gain progress - it’s just that Arsenal knew what they were doing with Saliba, whereas Barcelona ran into financial issues, so they had to sell quite a few players, including him.

I think I remember Saliba facing a lot of criticism a few years ago - look at him now. Maybe Todibo can follow a similar path. That said, he’s playing for Nice, Man United are already said to be tracking him, so I’d wager a guess that he’ll end up there. If he does’, I hope he pulls a Maguire. If he ends up at Liverpool, I hope he’s the next Van Dijk.

Robbo needs to be tried in the LCB role as well. I do think that will be the future career move for him as he gets older. I do think he’s defensively sound enough to make the transition too

Also as a potential left footed CB (as a stop gap)

Would leave us free to sign another LB as understudy if not a starter.

I hope you’re not judging Sepps progress based on his yellow cards :joy: If so, what do we look for? 0 in 11? or 11 in 11?

22 in 11?

Given Nice are owned by INEOS, and Jimmy Ratcliffe is buying a stake in United, he will end up at united. So we need to hope he’s the next Maguire.

I think Arsenal’s success with Saliba was more luck than judgement. Remember his first season there he was sent on loan only in Jan after Arteta failed to find a way to register him in their PL side rather than because of a coherent plan to let him develop somewhere else.

Will be links all over the place but these are two fresh names.

Maybe we should start the list now like we had for the CM.

We’ve definitely been linked to Guehi before, but who knows how legit the links were of whether they were just chancers throwing out semi reasonable names for clicks

Was looking at CB’s on transfermarkt (first with contracts until 2024 and 2025) and Lacroix (he’s until 2025) was one of the names I thought we might get linked with.

Was the same with Cheick Doucoure last summer, so this one probably won’t happen.

Lacroix is one of the names that you’ll find on fbref in a couple of minutes based on aerials won and % of dribblers tackled.

John Cross I think isn’t known for inventing stories but just saying that a quick search would bring his name up.

I believe he is also an Arsenal journalist so possibly wouldn’t generally know as much.

He’s no football insider

190cm +
Fast
Strong, dual machine, especially aerial dual.
Prefer calm one.

Klopp cb profile is very clear though.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has played down suggestions that the club will look to replace injured defender Joel Matip in the January transfer window. (Mirror)

Of course, he wouldn’t do the opposite but with only four CBs available going into the business end of the season, one of whom has a tendency to pick up injuries and another is very inexperienced, I think we should be looking for someone.

To me what it seemed was a wait and see

Like do they even look at the situation?

I really don’t expect another midfielder.

Especially not with Klopp showing increasing willingness to play Trent as a conventional midfielder.

I’ve gotta assume this post was before his very serious injury. It’s reported to be an ACL so Matip is likely to miss the rest of the season.

We need a CB but who knows if we’ll get one. We were already short 1 CB in the summer and now we’re down another one. Can we say “Injury crisis”?

I find it funny how Klopp says we need to look for a defender “gift wrapped” under the Christmas tree.

This is the same Liverpool team that bought Van Dijk in January. Also we have a record of doing pretty good business in January. Surely there are a number of CB prospects on our wish list whom our scouts have been tracking that we can talk to other teams about.

There will be but it doesn’t do anyone any good to start discussing it in public.

Play down expectations, keep things quiet, its the way we’ve done things for a while now.
