The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Seeing some random links to Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven.

Supposedly a decent right winger.

Don’t need one so far right he is tugging the touchline.

Been beating the drum for this guy for a while now. Only 20 years old, yet plays like a veteran.

Every time I’ve watched PSV this year (about 5 or 6) he has been the standout performer.

With Doak out, for what looks like the season, would be nice to get him in January so that we have a left footed right winger to get time while Mo is doing AFCON, and hopefully bed in for next season when Mo may be going.

A meniscus op with no other complications (as is usually the case when the op is described as fixing the meniscus) could see him back by mid Jan. I think the consideration with how Doak factors into our January transfer plans has been far more his lack of impact in a season in which there have been at least 6 games so far that have lent themselves to a young prospect competing for the role of Salah back up.

Meniscus tear as a 17 year old winger who relies on explosion…….

I’ve had a torn meniscus operation, and it was an 8-12 week recuperation. Much older than young Doak, and not a super fit professional athlete, but a competitive golfer in decent shape. I would be surprised if we see him before mid February, and the possibility of the season is not far fetched.

Meniscus has pretty much nothing to do with those qualities. No two Meniscus ops are the same, but that is because ops are typically done when there is some deeper knee issue in play that needs to be addressed. As long as it this is just a meniscus issue (sometimes something that is done a year or so after a previous knee surgery) the surgery is very minor and the recovery is very quick. I have personally seen them require only 3 week before the player can return to full training.

But the point remains - even if it takes him twice as long or more to recover this is a short term absence and its his lack of impact over the first 4 and half months of the season not this injury that will impact how he comes into our transfer planning

I think the issue for Doak is that whatever the length of the injury, he will be ruled out of the Jan market. A decent loan was probably the next step in his development.

I believe he would’ve remained with us this season.

Me too….our only real Salah alternative on the right.

Obviously a newbie poster. It’s common knowledge amongst us that you will have to wait 4-5 more games before you can make that statement.

Still has not signed a new contract with PSV so he could not be that expensive

On his transfermarkt it says that his last contract extension was in February 2023, for a deal until 2026. Are PSV trying to negotiate a new one, as he will soon have two years left?

No idea I keep reading that he PSV wants him to sign a new contract and that he refused.

Not quite a newbie, ergo the caveat.

Links today to an 18 year old Turkish midfielder who cannot get games at Juve after moving there from Bayern a couple of years of ago in the hope of having a better path there to first team football. I’ve never never heard of him, but by all accounts he’s very highly rated, but I cannot see us going after another ostensibly first team CM that young and inexperienced given the youth of the current group.
