Why would the manager announce we need moves when he knows the warchest is closed? Klopp is just toeing the company line. He’s not gonna embarrass FSG even though we know they are not opening the purse strings for him.
Unfortunately Klopp is the type who will try to make do with what he has rather than complain that the club is not backing him. If he were more honest about what’s going on behind the scenes maybe he could pressure FSG into spending but maybe it would do nothing at all, so why would he risk pissing off the owners when more than likely they still wouldn’t spend?
It’s obvious that we need to make some moves to become competitive but Cheap-SG won’t spend another penny in January. And it’s looking increasingly likely that Liverpool will also miss out on Bellingham next summer as well.
Some people will see it as ambition, others will look at it as WTF.
There does not seem to be any obvious strategy, like signing Aubameyang for Tuchel only to sack him (Tuchel) a week later. Its questionable as to who is actually making these signings.
Potter comes across as very level headed, so I am very sure he has not jumped up a (perceived) level from Brighton to Chelsea and demanded that they sign all these players.
So,I completely agree with you that it will be hard to make it work and additionally it may potentially force Potter to change his tactical style in order to suit the incoming players.
Love it or hate it - very much the status quo at present - at least our recruitment has for the best part been considered. Sure there have been questionable actions, but at least measured and not undermining/forced upon Klopp.
If Bellingham ends up in another team come this summer not unlike the Tchouameni saga, will the fans including the top reds realise that the club’s backroom is truly broken?
The lack of midfield reinforcements during this window is a bit frustrating. But if the plan indeed is to make a major revamp in the summer, I can live with it. It’s usually better to give new signings a whole summer to get acclimated to their new surroundings, build some cohesion with their teammates, and apply the expectations of their manager. No need to bring in new talent to an environment that currently seems quite demoralized.
I will not accept any poverty claims from FSG or whomever they sell the club to if we miss out on the UCL, though. They better be prepared to loosen the purse strings and fund a major midfield revamp.
Come this summer, FSG will still be here. Nobody can meet their valuation when the amount needed to rebuild the squad with young & good players can become massive. It’s the stark reality!
By all accounts it is fool proof. I haven’t played FM for over a decade but you can not fault their data. A good example is Cherno Samba, who apart from FM would have known that he would be a multiple Ballon D’or winner? Crazy
