I agree but it would appear Klopp does not. I think it’s fair to assume, based on the evidence of the last two seasons, that if Elliott is playing under Klopp he’ll be playing in midfield.
A patch of bad form that has lasted 12 months with 0 signs of improvement.
He’ll be 30 soon. Even if he regains some form, how long will that last?
Bin him off and start again.
Yep, but is it because Klopp thinks he is a midfielder or that he does not want to lose him, we shall see in the coming years.
A bad patch of form that has coincided with an overall regression of the team and poor performances across the board. If he’s on the chopping block so should half a dozen others. Might as well replace all of the centre backs bar Konate whilst we’re at it. Trent can go as he’s been shite this season. Barely seen Thiago and he’s over 30 so another for the scrapheap.
You’ve already got four going on frees plus probably one of Gomez or Matip as well as some other deadwood. We don’t need to be making more work for ourselves if we’re already replacing two thirds of the starters in that areas of the pitch.
Well, he’s not an attacker, so what is he then?
Nah, his poor form started when the team was at the top of its game.
Don’t hold back. Absolute bollocks mind you.
When was this. Is it on YouTube?
no idea who these are. they pop up in my feed but i dont follow them
Last spring he was one of the 3 names being heavily linked to us for midfield, but his move to Bayern was unofficially finalized pretty early. It is not clear what has happened to him at Bayern. On its surface it doesnt seem that big a deal to spend a season backing up Kimmich and Goretzka, but he was also behind Sabitzer as well, someone many thought would be leaving in that summer and who eventually left in the winter window. He clearly thought he’d be more important at Bayern than he’s been and whether that was just youthful bravado or based on promises he received isnt clear, but I think some understanding of that would be key to evaluating his first season - is this a normal path for a 20 year old walking into one of the biggest clubs in the world, or a player who was signed with a view to playing a role and then failed to live up to it resulting in him barely playing?
You’d have thought that the stuff being reported now (we’re in touch with his agent to see what sort of person he is) is the sort of background we’d already have on him given our prior interest. So maybe, if reports of this communication are legit, those talks are more about understanding from his perspective why it hasnt gone as expected at Bayern.
I always liked Gravenberch, a fine young talent the only con I have is his tendency to sometimes disappear in matches, that disappearing thing could be his age.
For the right price, Bayern paid €24m I’ll take him.
I always thought we would get two new midfielders, and my thinking was one of them would be the 6.
But let’s imagine it is Gravenberch for the left 8 and Bellingham for the right 8. (Before I say another word, yes please).
In addition to that, we would have Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Bajcetic, Elliot and Jones. Maybe even Morton comes into the picture.
As Rab said above, this is enough.
The old guard would offer something useful, as they won’t be counted on to carry it, week in and week out. And I suspect in time Bajcetic takes the 6 spot, but we will see in that, as he is only at the start.
Bellingham and Gravenberch wouldn’t be the worst window but it wouldn’t be the best either, I’d hope we’ll improve more than that.
I feel Gravenberch would be more like one of the Nunes alternatives if it doesn’t happen. Don’t see how and why he’d be one of our main two targets this summer. I think it’s still possible to end up with Bellingham and Nunes or two completely different/new names.
I’d bite your hand off for that right now.
I’d bite your hand off for that right now.
It still doesn’t fix our #6 spot and there are loads of players available who can improve on what we have.
Isnt Gravenberch comfortable in the 6? He is not the obvious candidate for us in general, but if we are interested, his ability to play in a 2 or as a 6 in a 3 (or at least do so in an attacking front foot side) might explain it
Another non specialist who we look to convert? The squad doesn’t quite have enough of those, one more can’t hurt.
Cheaper to buy a RB and move trent up, and probably better for the team.
Not necessarily for the #6 spot, but to play with Jude
