The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

Every once in a while an English player emerges who’s then placed above his station.
Seems like Anderson is next…

Is he any good, or is he just Dutch? :see_no_evil_monkey:

He’s got 137 points on the Fantasy PL game, he’s priced on there at 4.6m

12 best defender apparently.

What is Fantasy PL? I live in the real world.

We have a forum post about it.

And don’t be silly no one on here lives in the real world.

Aggressive and great with the ball at his feet, bit of dirtiness about him to go with the silk. Not sure what kind of money Brighton would ask for him, though. Also, he’d be the third big money centre back signing in less than a year, in addition to three new ones that were recently signed for U21s, so that would be a bit strange for me, especially if Konate extends.

He’s generally good at getting points if he’s on 137 but that could relate to goals or clean sheets. Though he probably doesn’t have much in the way of assists.

I think we’re done in Defense if Konate signs on and Tsimikas stays.
But someone like Slot will always ask for more signings, complain and use it as an excuse if it doesn’t happen.

Might be why we’re interested?

I thought the complaint about Slot was he relies on too small of a squad? And when has he asked for more signings? First summer here he got Chiesa and that was it.

There are enough issues with him to not need to make up pretend ones.

That’s definitely his outstanding attribute, at least when it comes to the eye test. That said, I read that Jacquet and especially Leoni are very capable in that regard, too.

Relying on only few players with a big/normal squad was one of the problems this season. Many players (when available) were ‘frozen’ out for some spells.

For me, Anderson is probably the better player at the moment. He plays with a lot of purpose, zipping the ball around and I think we need that. Was watching his highlights against Japan and he was fantastic. He constantly plays the ball forward and through the lines at speed.

Wharton is a good passer through the lines and decently solid but there is something about his game that feels a bit slow and lacking drive. He is 1.5 years younger though and a good player. He´d add progressive passing we lack and get Wirtz on the ball way more. Would need a proper ball winner next to him still though.

I’ve commented a few times that both Slot and Klopp have been unusually engaged with Van Hecke after games with Brighton in ways that very much looked like “tapping up” style conversations

And that’s his choice as a manager. Worked last season

But what there’s no evidence of is him demanding players and then using it as an excuse because we didn’t get them.

Only thing close would be Guehi and there’s probably not a person on here who doesn’t think we’d have been better had he arrived in the summer.

Might not be an unreliable rumour considering he’s probably going to be sold this next window. Question would be how much is a fee for a one year left and Brighton knowing that he’s not going to sign another contract?

I would still favour a CB like Senesi first, stats similar to Van Hecke this season. But most importantly a free transfer. He obviously played in a Slot team previously which could be good for both. Although plays in Virgils position, so would have to adapt and be the left footer on the right side to the right footer on the left side.

Both players would certainly agree to weekly wages less than Konates next contract. So possible financially to go and sign them both? And tell the new young CB’s, that Virgil is playing half of a normal season next year, so there will be plenty of game time to introduce them to a league they’ve never played in.

Konate’s not signing a contract is he, transfer window opens a couple of weeks before his contract ends. Liverpool go in and make a signing straight away, then he leaves, they’ve obviously not already given that player new guarantees that he is a first team starter when fit.

For me, assessing our targets is partially dependent on who we anticipate moving on. I’d like someone who can credibly play as a six and help offer cover for our backline. Wharton is best suited as an 8 or in a double pivot. But, we plan on moving on Macca and Jones this summer, we will need someone with Wharton’s profile as well.

Ideally, I’d love to get someone like Anderson because I think he offers more steel and defensive workrate as a six, and he can also step up at as 8. A midfield rotation of Anderson/Wharton/Grav/Szobo/Wirtz fills a bunch of different needs gives you many versatile options.

But it is unlikely we’ll go for both Wharton and Anderson - especially if we’re planning on signing Diomande as well. Maybe Joao Gomes would be a reasonable compromise if Anderson isn’t available?

It seems the tea leaves are indicating Anderson to City, Tonali to Arsenal, and Wharton to Liverpool, Baleba to United.

Liverpool are also monitoring Napoli’s Sam Beukema, 27, with the Dutch defender a long-term favourite of manager Arne Slot. (Teamtalk)

We’ve gone from monitoring this Beukema guy to supposedly making an offer. This is made up nonesense. He doesn’t even have any international caps for Holland.

Liverpool have made an offer to buy Netherlands centre-back Sam Beukema, 27, from Napoli , with the proposed deal worth 28m euros (£24.2m). (AreaNapoli via Teamtalk)
