The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

I don’t know what the motivation to go to Barca over us was, but I imagine the spin from our club when we crowed in public about only being interested in Gordon because we thought he might be available on the cheap due to Newcastle having to meet FFP rules may not have helped.

The same as it probably didnt win over Guehi either.

He has a scoring record at Newcastle of about 1 in 4 games, and an assist 1 in 5. (152 games, 39 goals and 28 assists).

He scored about 1 in 2 as a Centre Forward (around 9 in 16) and 1 in 4 on the left wing (around 8 in 29 I think).

He scored 10 in 18 Champions League appearances.

The suits love patting themselves on the back.

The Van Hecke links are interesting purely because I’ve been calling out a suspicion we were watching him based only on the way two successive managers have engaged with him after our games against them.

I’m using decent in a quintessentially British way. It means good, but not great. At least for me. Language is imprecise though.

At his best Konate is very good. At his worst he is absent minded and makes errors.

Overall it is decent/or good…

He will get his dough from someone else, and we will have to do some business which is a pain, but I’m glad we appear to be protecting the wage structure a bit, as I think other defenders would have gone above Konate in our pecking order before too long.

On Konate. He has been great or crap. If he is demanding wages for great every game then no. Let him go.

Exactly my view and I would go further he should sign for another 4 years just like Thiago Silva who played in club World Cup at the age of 40.he should retire at Liverpool and I reckon he is more likely to get a statue outside Anfield more than any another legends.

I don’t think it will help them win the CL as the Manure winger helped them quite a bit but the area they need to buy is at the back.

Not liking the mention that we showed our interest in Gordon too late, Barca had already made big advances with him.

Not that bothered with Gordon himself, but I hope this doesn’t become a pattern where we miss out because we made our approach too late.

We became famous for having plans tentatively mapped out a year or more in advance, which meant fuck ups like not engaging Sanchez until he’d already committed to arsenal became a thing of the past.

I wonder how much if at all the failures of this season has meant a reevaluation of what was needed in the market, and us being behind schedule with engaging our newly identified targets

So, we agreed to a salary and length with Ibou, but talks collapsed over the bonus structure?

That seems odd, tbh.

But that valuation is only down to him having only 1 year on his contract, when at 40m he was still excellent value.

Sometimes, we don’t see wood for the trees!

I think Diomande and Wharton were being linked last summer as future targets, although the former ma be a false memory because of @RedOverTheWater mentioning him in virtually every post.

He was but a myth until @RedOverTheWater spoke him into existence

I may have mentioned him once or twice :joy:

On a serious note when I first started talking about him I thought it would be about 60M - still steep for the body of work, but I think he is really talented and could well go on to be one of the best wingers in the business.

Since then the price has gone up and up, and what felt like a bit of a canny suggestion now apparently is mainstream for the top end, as Liverpool, PSG and Man City are all supposed to be interested.

I would still do it, if we can, but I can’t say I’d be a fan of the likely price. That’s probably more a comment on the system than anything else, as top teams have to overpay for emerging talent as if it is the finished article.

Saw Newcastle supposedly really want Ez Abde from Betis and we were linked a month back.

He´s be a smart choice for us to pick up, I expect. 24, had a very good season, not high profile so wouldn´t cost the world, scores and can create, beats players and is quick.

I think somebody has mentioned previously (or maybe one of the recent YT video) that with the uncertainty of whether Slot will still be the head coach, and also talks about the infighting between Edwards and Hughes, thus instabilities upstairs, players and their agents are turning down any current LFC approaches.

Ultimately, LFC needs to come out and make things official, either Slot will be here this coming season with extension (OMG), or he’s gone as soon as UCL is done, and the club announce a new head coach/manager. Until this is sorted, we won’t have any players wanting to commit to us.

I think this is probably being overstated. If Arne is staying, the club will make that clear. If he isnt, it’s not in the player’s interests to withdraw from negotiations so early.

Keep tabs on anyone Newcastle, Bournemouth, Brighton, or Brentford are looking at, and jump in before they do.

Yup, also like it’s an issue at any other club in the known world.
